<br />.w <br />~~,w. <br />MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2Q08 <br />Present: President of Council Kennedy, Council Members Barker, Gareau, <br />Dailey Jones, Kearney, Mahoney, Orlowski, Ryan <br />Also Present: Mayor O'Grady, Law Director Dubelko, Finance Director Copfer, Acting <br />Clerk of Council Murphy <br />President Kennedy called the meeting to order at 8 p.m. in Council Chambers, 5200 <br />Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Council in the recitation of the Pledge of <br />Allegiance. <br />The minutes of the Council meeting of October 7, 2008 were approved as written. <br />President Kennedy announced the following legislation would be considered for passage <br />under suspension of the rules: second reading, Ordinance 2008-124; first reading, <br />Resolution 2008-147. <br />REP <br />Mayor O'Grady: 1) Welcomed students from Cleveland State University. The students <br />are taking a course in local government from professor Dr. Lisa Thomas, who is a <br />spectacular professor and a member of his cabinet. <br />2) Comments on the election: The Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. had a dream <br />that one day people would be judged, not based upon the color of their skin, but based <br />upon the content of their character. Dr. King knew that in his day, they weren't going to <br />get there, and they didn't. We are not there yet, but we have taken a great, a massive step <br />forward. This was a profound election, not just because of the historic election of the <br />first African-American president, but also because we are a nation at war an two fronts <br />and our nation has significant economic challenges. For all those who were candidates <br />whether they won or lost, congratulations for the courage it takes to run as a candidate. <br />For those that were elected, he pledges to work cooperatively with them. We will and we <br />must work together in order to move our community and our people forward. <br />3) Our efforts with the GCRTA to minimize the impact of proposed route changes on our <br />residents have met with some significant success. RTA General Manager Joe Calabrese <br />has notified him that the historic 75 cross town line will continue service to downtown <br />during the four morning peak runs and four evening peals runs. As previously proposed <br />by RTA, the non-peak runs will become feeder routes to the Red Line at West Park Rapid <br />Station. Although not a complete reversal of the cuts and changes that were <br />recommended and were going to impact the Westshore, this is a significant reprieve and <br />
