Council Minutes of 10/7/2008 <br />who joined in support of this effort, especially Council Members Dailey Jones, Ryan and <br />Kearney. <br />3) The administration remains concerned over cuts that are being considered by the <br />Greater Cleveland RTA, specifically changes to the 7S cross-town, 87 flyer, and the 96 <br />flyer. He sent a letter on behalf of all North Olmsted and Fairview Pazk residents to Joe <br />Calabrese, CEO of RTA, requesting both reconsideration of these cuts and a public <br />hearing to be held here in North Olmsted. We still await their reply. <br />4) The city held practice disaster table-top exercises on September 24 and 2S at North <br />Olmsted Fire Station 2. These exercises identified azea concerns, improved emergency <br />communications and clarified the various responsibilities and roles that each would have <br />in the event of a large scale catastrophic incident. He joined select directors, division <br />heads, police and fire leadership, the Cuyahoga County Emergency Management <br />Administration, CERT teams and others in these exercises. The citizens of North <br />Olmsted can be confident flat the administration and the city are well prepared in the <br />event that a lazge-scale disaster should occur. <br />S) On October 1, the County Senior Transportation Connection entered into an agreement <br />with the North Olmsted Commission on Pazatransit to assume all pazatransit <br />responsibilities. Tlis landmark agreement will expand travel opportunities for our <br />citizens while reducing costs for the city. An example of doing more with less. <br />6) A third example of doing more with less aze the city's efforts with the Bureau of <br />Workers' Compensation for self-insurance. Our application is progressing well, and we <br />anticipate an answer from the BWC soon. Council will be kept apprised. <br />7) Senior Fest will take place at Springvale Ballroom on October 15. Tickets may be <br />purchased for $3 at the North Olmsted Senior Center. Music, dancing, and a delicious <br />meal will be part of this multi-generational program sponsored by the North Olmsted <br />High School SITES program and the City of North Olmsted. In the past, the city has <br />been able to waive the fee. If Council has interest in bringing back the initiative where <br />city events are done at cost, he would be happy to do so. <br />8) Flu shots will take place at the North Olmsted Senior Center on Monday, October 20. <br />Call the Senior Center for appointments. <br />9) The city will be assisting individuals in completing Home Energy Assistance Program <br />(HEAP) applications on Thursday, October 23, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please call for <br />appointments. This entity provides discounts on winter gas bills for those who qualify. <br />IO) Our North Olmsted Community Emergency Food Cupboard will become a Choice <br />Cupboard effective tomorrow. Choice Cupboards allow those who are in need to pick <br />their own products, thereby reducing waste. This also allows our cupboard to purchase <br />items through the Cleveland Food Bank in partnership with St. Richard's and other area <br />parishes. <br />11) Our third annual Rake North Olmsted Day in collaboration with North Olmsted area <br />Scout troops is scheduled far Saturday, November 8. Anyone willing to rake or any <br />North Olmsted resident over the age of 60 or disabled should contact the office of <br />Community Life Services for information. <br />12) The Civil Service Commission will be conducting a promotional exam for the <br />position of road foreman on November 15 with 10 Service Dept. employees currently <br />registered. <br />2 <br />
