~6
q. _:,:
Resolution 2008-79, is a resolution authorizing the Chief of Police to apply for
Law Enforcement Grant funds from the State of Ohio for Drug Abuse Resistance
Education (DARE) for fisea12008-2009 and, if the application is granted, further
authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State of Ohio, or the
appropriate State of Ohio law enforcement agency, to accept said grant funding
on behalf of the city, and declaring an emergency. The committee unanimously
recommended Resolution 2008-79.
Ordinance 2008-79, an ordinance amending Sections 1701.01, 1701.04, 1701.10,
and 1701.13 of Chapter 17Q1 (Fire Code) of the Fire Prevention Code in order to
incorporate changes in the Ohio Fire Code, specifically for certification of fire
safety inspectors and contractors, and to add fees for fire safety inspections. This
ordinance raises the inspection fee for a second re-inspection to $50 and a third or
more re-inspection to $100. These fees have not been raised in many years and
Councilman Mahoney, member of the Parks & Recreation Commission: 1) The
commission met yesterday, Monday, June 2, 2008. All members were present. Ted
DiSalvo, Recreation Commissioner, reported that the spring ice show was a complete
success. It included anall-time paid admission attendance record: Friday, May 16, was
399; Saturday, May 17, was 497; Sunday, May 18, was .510. There were over 160
participants in this year's event, which was compared to only 100 in 2007. Summer
camp begins Monday, June 9. They have registered 218 campers, with the idea that the
Mayor O'Grady asked for a moment of silence in memory of Joe Hyland, the grounds
director for the North Olmsted City Schools, who was injured in a motorcycle accident
over the holiday weekend and passed away last week.
AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION
1) Dennis Lambert, 25057 Carey Lane, felt that the Mayor's comments regarding what
occurred in the debate and discussion of the Rec Center left the citizens out of the loop.
He commends Council for corning forward stating what they think as it is important for
citizens to know where Council stands on issues. This is what makes this country a
democracy, and North Olmsted is a microcosm of that democracy. Regarding Ordinance
2008-67 which is about directors showing up at meetings, there is another secondary
issue-accountability to Council. Council has to evaluate people, and raises come forth
through Council. One way of evaluating those who serve are how committed they are to
performing their duties. Documentation is the biggest part of that, and attendance records
are part of that. It is important to look at how they fulfill their job responsibilities. One
of the good things about the (original) ordinance, there is a job responsibility to the
people. of the community and to Council. In tight times, if we have a director who
