<br />b" <br />MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />MAY 6, 2008 <br />Present: President of Council Kennedy, Council Members Barker, Gareau, <br />Dailey Jones, Kearney, Mahoney, Orlowski, Ryan <br />Also Present: Mayor O'Grady, Law Director Dubelko, Finance Director Copfer, Clerk of <br />Council Seman <br />President Kennedy called the meeting to order at 8 p.m. in Council Chambers, 5200 Dover <br />Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Council in the recitation of the Pledge of <br />Allegiance. <br />The minutes of the Council meeting of April 15, 2008 were approved as written. The minutes of <br />the special Council meeting of Apri122, 2008 were approved as written. <br />President Kennedy announced the following legislation would be considered for passage under <br />suspension of the rules: second reading, Resolution 2008-53; first reading, Resolutions 2008-64, <br />2008-65, 2008-71, 2008-74, 2008-75. <br />REPORTS <br />1) On Monday, April 28, joined by U. S. Senator Sherrod Brown and Channel 3 news anchor <br />Tim White, Brigadier General U.S. Air Force, to present the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major <br />D. Brock Foster, U. S. A. F. Retired. This ceremony occurred almost 40 years after Maj. Foster <br />earned the distinction during the Viet Nam War. Maj. Foster is also a Korean War and WW II <br />veteran. <br />2) This past Thursday, accepted an invitation from Gov. Strickland as he signed the final SB 221 <br />that not only continued aggregation but also put controls in place that will protect our citizens by <br />limiting the abilities of utilities to unilaterally raise rates. <br />3) The Recreation Center annual ice show will be held on May 16, 17, and 18. <br />4) Recently recognized 17 N. O. residents age 90 and above at the Senior Center. <br />5) The Dept. of Community Life Services, through the Cuyahoga County Senior Home Safety <br />Grant program, has assisted 19 seniors with making their homes safer. <br />6) Second annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life is scheduled for June 21 and 22 at the <br />high school. Currently there are more than 25 teams. Cancer survivors are invited to be our <br />guests at a luncheon on June 21. <br />7) Springvale will hold a Mother's Day brunch on May 10. <br />8) The Human Resources Dept. received 22 applications for the Asst. Bldg. Commissioner <br />position which have been forwarded to the Safety Director. <br />9) Negotiations continue with Dispatchers and AFSCME ClericaUTechnical unions. A recent <br />session with ClericaUTechnical was cancelled at request of the union and has been rescheduled. <br />We will go to fact finding with AFSCME Service sometime in mid-May. <br />
