Thanks to Dave Wendell and Duane Limpert for organizing
the seminar.
Law Director Dubelko: 1) Shared memories of Ernie Gundy, the city's former Building
Commissioner, who recently passed away. Mr. Gundy was a true public servant, a class
act, and a real professional. He was the Building Commissioner when North Olmsted
bloomed as a community in the late 50's and early 60's, and he served under three
mayors in that capacity. He was responsible for the establishment of the city Building
Code, the Zoning Code, the Dwelling House Code. Mr. Gundy served as the president of
the Ohio Building Inspectors Association and as president of the Midwest Building
Officials Conference. He was one of the people who truly made North Olmsted what it is
today.
Mayor O'Grady said the city had also recently lost a former Capt. of the Fire Dept., Don
Herman. Our thoughts go out to the Gundy and Herman families.
Law Director Dubelko continued his report: 2) Litigation: Case of Szarka v. City of
North Olmsted, the Court of Common Pleas upheld the decision of the Board of Zoning
2
