Council Minutes of 2/19/2008 <br />Appeals denying a variance requested for the proposed minor subdivision. The decision <br />was rendered on February 6, so the appellant in the case would have 30 days to take a <br />further appeal to the Court of Appeals. The Laser Wash case pending in Rocky River <br />Court was set for trial on February 21. There was a joint motion to continue that trial to <br />provide the developer with a more time to come up with a minor change proposal that the <br />city would find acceptable. <br />4) On February 9, he put on a "Municipal Law 101" seminar for Council. <br />5) Has reviewed a number of contracts including completing review of the Bowen <br />contract. In response to Councilman Barker's concerns, he did put some language in the <br />new contract authorized by Ord. 2007-157 that would provide for the automatic <br />termination of the contract that Council provided as a stop-gap measure in Ord. 2008-12. <br />6) Carole Heyward is working on providing recommended legislation for changes in <br />Chapter 1363 (Property Maintenance). <br />Councilman Ryan said his first assignment when he began working for the city in 1979 <br />was to work with Mr. Gundy. Their relationship evolved into a close personal friendship <br />through the years. Ernie Gundy was his friend. He was an exceptional human being. <br />Finance Director Copfer: 1) Attended a Records Commission meeting on February 6. <br />2) Participated in AFSCME Service negotiations on February 7. <br />3) Attended an Ethics Commission meeting on February 8. <br />4) Reviewed ClericaUTech proposals in preparation of negotiations commencing with <br />that bargaining unit. <br />5) Worked extensively with all departments and division heads in conjunction with the <br />Mayor to balance the 2008 appropriations, which is before Council this evening. The <br />General Fund was the biggest challenge. There is more work to do-the budget may <br />evolve somewhat. The detail will be provided to Council tomorrow <br />6) At 7 p.m. on Monday, February 25, she will hold a "Finance 101" meeting for new <br />members of Council and others who would like to attend to refresh their knowledge <br />before budget hearings begin. <br />Councilman Gareau said he knew Don Herman quite well. Like Mr. Gundy, he was an <br />exceptional person. Ralph Hazleton, a former president of Council in the late 50's and <br />early 60's also passed away. He and Mr. Gundy were involved in city government for a <br />long time, and they both remained as residents of North Olmsted. <br />Councilman Ryan, chairperson of the Intra-Governmental Relations Committee: 1) The <br />Mayor has nominated Donald Rerko to the Landmarks Commission for the term of <br />1/1/08 to 12/31/09. Mr. Rerko was previously interviewed for another position, and he <br />will be a good fit for this position as well. Councilman Ryan made a motion to approve <br />the Mayor's appointment of Donald Rerko to the Landmarks Commission for the term of <br />January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2009. The motion was seconded by Councilman <br />Orlowski. Roll call: Ryan, yes; Orlowski, yes; Mahoney, yes commenting that he had <br />the opportunity and privilege to work with Mr. Rerko on the Planning & Design <br />Commission.
