<br />MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />JANUARY 15, 2008 <br />Present: President of Council Kennedy, Council Members Barker, Gareau, <br />Dailey Jones, Kearney, Mahoney, Orlowski <br />Also Present: Mayor O'Grady, Law Director Dubelko, Finance Director Copfer, Clerk of <br />Council Seman <br />Absent: Council Member Ryan <br />President Kennedy called the meeting to order at 8 p.m. in Council Chambers, 5200 <br />Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Council in the recitation of the Pledge of <br />Allegiance. <br />The minutes of the Council meeting of December 18, 2007 were approved as written. <br />The minutes of the Council meeting of January 2, 2008 were approved as written. <br />President Kennedy announced the following legislation would be considered for passage <br />under suspension of the rules: second reading, Res. Nos. 2007-149, 2007-153, 2007-154. <br />REPOR S <br />Mayor O'Grady: 1) Paid tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King on the occasion of his <br />birthday. He noted a legislative request had been submitted today, as recommended by <br />the Landmarks Commission, for a historical marker of the Peake house. This marker will <br />commemorate the area where one of the first African-American families lived in this <br />region. They were active in the community; they were property owners; they voted in <br />elections, and they were also part of the underground railroad. <br />2) A kick-off event for the second annual North Olmsted American Cancer Society Relay <br />for Life will be held on Sunday, February 10, from Noon to 3 p.m. in the Macy's area of <br />Westfield's Great Northern Mall. The event will feature entertainment for the whole <br />family and the sharing of information on the relay which will be held on June 21 and 22 <br />at North Olmsted High School. For more information, contact CLS Director Dailey. <br />3) Thanks to many North Olmsted citizens who helped make the holidays better for so <br />many needy North Olmsted families. This year, 38 different families benefited from the <br />Adopt-A-Family program run through our Dept. of Community Life Services. Special <br />thanks to department secretary Joanne Hanna who did an outstanding job of matching up <br />these needy families with volunteer organizations and businesses. <br />4) The City of North Olmsted was chosen as one of four communities in Cuyahoga <br />County to be part of the Senior Home Safety Program that's orchestrated through the <br />~. <br />
