Council Minutes of 9-15-2009
Orlowski, Councilman Gareau, committee member Kearney, Councilman Mahoney, and
Mr. Mark Gilbertson the project manager, who is in attendance waiting patiently for the
vote on this project. This proposal consists of a building facade change. The application
was reviewed and denied as a minor change. The changes consist of altering the roof line
by adding two tower elements and new signage. The towers are white anodized
aluminum clad with a red aluminum top cap and recessed white LED lighting. The
Commission raised the issue of installing an additional dumpster enclosure on site to
house the existing dumpsters. The applicant has proposed eliminating the dumpsters that
do not fit inside the enclosure rather than constructing an additional enclosure. The
Commission also made a condition of approval of resurfacing and restriping of the
parking lot and drives, which the applicant had indicated will be done this year and he
thinks they are done now. That was per the Planning Director. Discussion that followed
was primarily that the renovations to Valvoline were a nice addition and happy to see
dollars invested to improve a facility in North Olmsted during these tough economic
times. Some work has already begun on a few of the mentioned items from planning and
zoning, such as consolidation of the dumpsters and removal of number signs on the back
of the building. A motion was made by Mr. Barker to approve CMS09-08 Valvoline
Instant Oil Change located at 24866 Lorain Road along with the recommendations from
the Planning and Design Commission. The motion was seconded by Mrs. Dailey Jones
and the vote was 3-0 for approval. The meeting adjourned at 7:10 pm.
Councilman Barker made a motion to approve CMS09-08 Valvoline Instant Oil Change
located at 24866 Lorain Road. The motion was seconded by Councilwoman Dailey
Jones and passed unanimously. CMS09-08 Valvoline Instant Oil Change approved.
Councilwoman Dailey Jones, Chairwoman of the Streets and Transportation Committee:
The Streets and Transportation Committee met on Wednesday, September 9th at 9:44
p.m. for the annual streets tour. .Present were Councilwoman Dailey Jones and Mr.
Kearney, members of the Streets and Transportation Committee; Council members
Brossard, Barker, Orlowski, and Gareau; Service Director Limpert; and Tim Conway
who drove the participants around North Olmsted that evening. There were guest
residents on the bus as well. There was a tour of streets that have been rehabilitated this
year and a comparison to streets to what they had been last year. Each Ward Councilman
then selected streets in their ward to tour which are in need of rehabilitation. Mr. Limpert
updated Council about how they got where they are with each street that they toured -
when the street was put in, when it was last crack sealed or slab repaired, or when it was
last put in. This is the last streets tour Councilwoman Dailey Jones will be participating
in as Chairperson of the Streets Committee. She thanked the members of Council for
taking the time to attend that meeting. She also thanked the Service Director who guided
everyone through that tour and especially the residents who took the time to come out
and take that tour. That shows a lot of initiative as far as community involvement. She
congratulated Mrs. Seman on her retirement. She said Mrs. Seman guided her through
the process about what it meant to be a Councilperson in this city. Mrs. Seman has
become a friend of the family. She wished her the very best.
7
..
