Council Minutes of 3/3/2009 <br />Council Member Dailey Jones made a motion to appoint Councilman Brossard to be <br />chair of the Intra-Governmental Relations Committee, vice-chair of the Environmental <br />Control Committee, member of the Recreation, Public Parks & Buildings Committee, and <br />Council's representative to the Faith Communities Forum. Law Director Dubelko <br />suggested the motion be amended to state all the assignments of the other Council <br />Members remain the same. The motion, with the Law Director's suggested amendment, <br />was seconded by Councilman Gazeau and passed unanimously. <br />Councilman Gazeau made a motion to appoint Paul Barker to be the President Pro Tem <br />for the year 2009. The motion was seconded by Council Member Jones and passed <br />unanimously. <br />REPORTS <br />Mayor O'Grady: 1) Congratulations and welcome to Ward I Councilman Lou Brossard <br />and his family. As with all members of Council, the administration looks forward to <br />working with him. He will have the same fine support that has been provided to the rest <br />of Council. <br />2) Efforts are continuing in the area of a regional fire district and also in the area of <br />economic stimulus efforts potentially coming to the city. <br />3) The annual North Olmsted Senior Center garage sale will be held on Saturday, March <br />7, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. This fund-raiser helps support activities at the center. The <br />Senior Center will sponsor free hearing screenings on Thursday, March 12, from 9:30 to <br />11:30 a.m. Call the Senior Center for an appointment. A presentation on general <br />awareness and healthy eating tips for diabetics will be held on Wednesday, March 18, at <br />11 a.m. Call the Senior Center for reservations. <br />4) The third annual North Olmsted American Cancer Society Relay for Life is scheduled <br />for Saturday, June 20, at North Olmsted High School stadium and track. In the past two <br />years, over $140,000 has been raised for cancer research and to support the many <br />American Cancer Society programs. The next organizational meeting is scheduled for <br />6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, at the North Olmsted Rec Center. Anyone interested in <br />volunteering, please contact the relay chairwoman Melissa Meredith or the Community <br />Life Services Director. <br />S) Supervisor training for all departments and divisions for the self-insured worker's <br />comp program are now complete. Since this program was implemented at the beginning <br />of the year, there has been one claim submitted. <br />6) Negotiations were held with the Fraternal Order of Police and the International <br />Association of Fire Fighters yesterday. The next session with the FOP is scheduled for <br />March 2S. The labor negotiator has contacted SERB to designate a fact finder to begin <br />the process with the fire fighters' union. <br />7) The city has been awarded a $3,500 gant from the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste <br />District for community recycling awareness. The city and schools will be partnering to <br />design and distribute reusable grocery bags with the recycling logo. <br />8) A public meeting for the Great Northern Multi-modal Transportation Plan will be held <br />on Thursday, March 19, at 6:30 p.m. at the North Olmsted branch library.
