Council Minutes of 1/20/2009
to focus on the reduction of service that can be provided with the cuts in the manning.
There were 17 runs in December of 2008 that were back-to-back. runs. He hears the
current proposal is to reduce the staffing at Fire Station No. 2. Without that staffing, a
first responder piece of equipment out at the west end of town. will. be lost. Those 17 runs
just in that one month. will see an impact in the response times when that piece of
equipment isn't staffed appropriately. The first run that he looked at, there was a
difference in six minutes. When. appropriately staffed, the engine was there in one
minute for a medical run.. Sixty to seventy percent of their runs are EMS runs. With the
17 runs that occurred back-to-back, two runs on the west end of town happened within a
half hour of each other. It's important to focus on the changes that will occur with the
reduction in staffing.
Dennis Lambert, 25057 Carey Lane, related a situation that happened several years ago in
his neighborhood. His street is a circular street with Allendale Drive that horseshoes
around Carey Lane. He noticed a Bay Village ambulance on a mutual aid run going up
and. down the street. He f nally flagged it down and helped them find the home they were
looking for which was around the corner. Although the call was for an injured child,
fortunately it was not a life threatening situation. This answers the question of what can
happen in a mutual aid situation when people do not know the area.
LEGISLATION
Resolution No. 2009-2 introduced by Mayor O'Grady was given its second reading.
