<br />MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF TIIE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />JANUARY 6, 2009 <br />Present: President of Council Kennedy, Council Members Barker, Gareau, <br />Dailey Jones, Kearney, Mahoney, Orlowski, Ryan <br />Also Present: Mayor O'Grady, Law Director Dubelko, Finance Director Copfer, Clerk of <br />Council Seman <br />President Kennedy called the meeting to order at 8:05 p.m. in Council Chambers, 5200 <br />Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Council in the recitation of the Pledge of <br />Allegiance. <br />The minutes of the Council meeting of December 16, 2008 were approved as written. <br />President Kennedy announced the following legislation would be considered for passage <br />under suspension of the rules: second reading, 2008-156; first reading, 2009-1. <br />President Kennedy asked for a moment of silence in memory of resident Nicolas Rauser, <br />a 15 year old young man who recently passed away due to a car accident. <br />REPORTS <br />1) The city will receive funding from the Ohio Public Works Commission to rebuild <br />Dover Center Road. The award is in excess of $800,000. <br />2) The new Crocker-Stearns Road roadway was opened on December 18 and completed <br />ahead of schedule and under budget. With the cooperation of Congressman Dennis <br />Kucinich and Senator George Voinovich, a set-aside of $950,000 allowed us to build this <br />roadway at no cost to our citizens. <br />3) Administration is proud to announce that on December 31, 2008 the city was officially <br />notified by the Bureau of Workers' Compensation that we have been granted self-insured <br />status effective this year. This new status will result in greater efficiency for our city and <br />significant premium cost savings for our taxpayers of approximately $400,000 each year. <br />This news follows on the heels of the announcement of our new health care plan for 2009 <br />that contains the rising costs of health care at a savings to our taxpayers of over $900,000. <br />Congratulations to Human Resources Director Cheryl Farver for these impressive <br />accomplishments. <br />4) He has submitted over $97 million in stimulus projects to the United States Conference <br />of Mayors in anticipation of support of our efforts with President-elect Obama's <br />administration. These projects have also been submitted to the Ohio Municipal League <br />and to the State of Ohio for their information. We have high confidence that we'll get <br />some support on the economic stimulus. <br />
