. ~~

s.
North Olmsted City Council
August 7, 1980
Page 3.
As, various communities' longevity programs progress up the scale in
years of continuous service; increments increase in a pattern consi.sS
tent with that during the first time period. In no case surveyed do
any longevity payments come close to those offered by North Olmsted.
Communities surveyed show a pattern of approximately 50-50 pxe~exence
for either percentage or flat dollar amount longevity pay tents. In
those communities, including North Olmsted, where longevity is calcu-
lated in percentage of base salary, payments will increase through the
years at a much higher rate, since these longevity payments are tied
to salary increases. In communities where a flat dollar amount is gi~ren,
the dollar amount remains the same, even though salaries increase.
Thus, North Olmsted's longevity program, surpassed only by the City
of Akron, offers higher dollar amounts .over and above salary thxoughr~
out the life of the program.
For purposes of further comparison, the charts below show Ngxth Olmsted
and five communities which have a Paramedic program, in terms off;
Firemen's wages during 1980 after completing 2, 5,.10, and 15 years
of service; longevity payments; Paramedic bonus where offered; and
total pay. The following chart does not include other cost items
such as clothing allowances, overtime pay, percentage o~ wages paid
to State Fire Pension Fund, and Blue Cross.
DURING 1'9'80
CITY YRS OF WAGES LONGEVITY PARAMEDIC TOTAL
SERVICE BONUS
NORTH
OLMSTED 2 $19,308 ---------- $400 $19,708
5 19,308 $ 772 (40) 400 20,480
10 19,308 965 (50) 400 20,673
15 19,308 1159 (60) 400 20,867
BAY
VILLAGE Z 16,350 ---------- -TM~--cam-~-~-~_~ 16#.350
3 18,650 280 (1.5%) ----------- 18,930
5 18,650 466 (2.5%) ----------- -~ 19,116
10 18,650 653 (3.50) ----------- 19,303
15 18,650 839 (4.5%) ----------- 19,489
FAIRVIEW
PARK 2 17,618 ---------- ------ ----- 17,618
5 .18,619 372 (2%) ------ ----- 18,991
10 18,619 559 (3%) ------ ----- 19,178
15 18,619 745 (4 a) ------ ----~ 19,364
