within the bargaining unit who have a commonaliiy of interest in the outcome of the grievance. <br />Such policy grievance shall be filed within the time constraints established in Section 2, Step 1, <br />of this Arficle, and shall be heard on a Step 3 levei af the grievance procedure: <br />ARTICLE 8- PROBATIONARY PER1OD <br />Section 1. New employees shall be considered to be on probation for a period of One <br />Hundred and Eighty (180) calendar days. During the probationary period; discharge or <br />suspension by the City shalf not be subject to the grievance procedure. <br />Section 2. lf any employee is discharged, retires, or quits during the probafiianary <br />period described in Sectian 1 above, and is later rehired, he shall be considered as a new <br />employee and the subject to the provisions of Section 1. <br />ARTICLE 9- SENIORITY <br />Section 1. Only regular full-time and regular part-time employees of the City shall have <br />seniority. Students and summer employees shall have no seniority rights. A regu(ar part-time <br />empioyee is one that works mare fhan twenty (20) hours per week, but less than forty (40) <br />hours per week on a regular basis. A regular full-time employee is one who is scheduled for <br />forty (40) hours af work per week. <br />Section 2. Seniority shali mean an employee's uninferrupted length of continuous <br />service wifih the City measured from his last hiring date as a regular part-fime/full-fime <br />employee. An employee shali have no seniority for the probationary period provided in Article 8, <br />Section 1, but upon completion of the probationary period, seniority shall be retroactive to the <br />date of hire. Seniority wili be accrued for regular part-time employees on actual hours worked. <br />12
