IMPROVEMENTS OF MILL ROAD, PORTER ROAD, DOVER
CENTER ROAD AND LORAIN AVENUE
Owner: City of North Olmsted, Ohio
Project Cost: $1.5 Million
Completion Date: 1996
Description:
As part of the on-going development for its commercial sector, the City of North Olmsted
undertook improvements of the perimeter roads around the new Water Tower Square Shopping
Center. Polytech provided design services for this work as follows:
o Mill Road was widened from two lanes to three lanes replacing the existing
pavement with new reinforced concrete. Anew storm sewer system was provided,
designed with in--line storage to alleviate the effect of additional storm water on the
existing system which is currently overloaded. A 12" water line was lowered and
relocated for the full length of the road.
o Porter Road was improved at the intersection with Mill Road by providing new left
turn lanes at both sides of the intersection. The pavement was widened and
curbing was added. New catch basins and sewers were provided, and new traffic
signals were installed.
o Preliminary plans were prepared to improve Lorain Avenue at the intersection with
Dover Center Road by widening to provide an additional right turn lane at each
side. The work would have required the relocation of a major overhead
transmission line along Lorain Avenue, so it was not implemented.
o Anew storm sewer was provided along North Pazk Drive, carrying storm water
from the PorterlMill Road intersection azea.
o A study was performed to review relocation alternatives for the Porter/North Pazk
Drive Intersection.
The construction documents presented all detailed information for the required work, including
roadway typical sections; plan and profile; intersection details and pavement joint plans; cross
sections; water work plans; storm sewer profiles and details; traffic signal details; traffic control
plans showing signs and pavement markings; right-of--way plans and pazcel descriptions.
Construction cost estimates and a Project Manual were also prepared.
. ,..~.
i
