ARTICLE 8 - PROBATIONARY PERIOD <br />Section 1. New employees sha11 be considered to be on probation for a period of one hundred <br />and eighty (180) calendar days. During the probationary period, discharge or suspension by the City <br />shali not be subject to the grievance procedure. <br />Section 2. If an employee is discharged, retires, or quits during the probationary period descrihed <br />in Section 1 and is later rehired, he shall be considered as a new employee and subject to the <br />provisions of Section 1. <br />ARTICLE 9 - SENIORITY <br />Section 1. Oniy regular full-time employees of the City shalf have seniority. Students, summer <br />employees and part-time employees shall have no seniority rights. Part-time employees are those <br />employess who are regularly scheduled to work fwenty (20) hours or less per week A regular full- <br />time employee is one who is scheduled for forty (40) hours of work per week. <br />Section 2. Seniority shall mean an employee's uninterrupted length of continuous service with <br />the City measured from his last hiring date as a full-time employee. An employee shall have no <br />seniority for the probationary period provided in Article 8 but upon completion of the probationary <br />period, seniority shall be retroactive to the date of hire. <br />Section 3. The Ciiy shall provide the Union with a copy of the seniority lists. These lists shall be <br />made up by classifications and shall contain in order of date of hire, and the seniority date of each <br />employee. <br />Section 4. Continuous service and seniority shall be broken when an employee: <br />(a) Quits; <br />(b) Is discharged for just cause; <br />( c) Is laid off for a period equal to the amount of seniority held at the time the lay-off <br />commences, or forty-eight (48) consecutive mon#hs, whichever is less; <br />0*01 <br />erns:opeiuMn-cio <br />98KNOUTA.WPD 9 <br />
