Section 4. In the event an empbyee is laid off for lack of work, he shalf receive payment for any <br />eamed but unused vacation as quickly as practicable, but no later than fourteen (14) calendar days <br />after the lay-off. <br />ARTiCLE 18 - RECALL FROM L4Y-OFF <br />Section 1. Employees shall be recalJed to their classification in accordance with seniority or to <br />ather jobs they are qualified to perforrn in accordance with their seniority in the reverse order of their <br />fay-off. An employee on lay-off will be given seven (7) calendar days' notice of recall from the date <br />on which the Uni#ed States Postal Service makes the first attempt to deliver the recall notice by <br />certified mail to the empioyee's last known address as shown on the City's records. This period may <br />be extended by agreemen# between the City and the Union. <br />ARTICLE 19 - PROMOTIONS, BIDDING, TRANSFERS AND JOB TRAINING <br />Section 1. When a vacancy occurs within a job classification covered by the terms of this <br />Agreement, or a new job is created within the meaning of Articie 24 of this Agreement, the City shall <br />post a notice of the opening for seven (7) consecutive calendar days on bulletin boards within each <br />departrnent The notice sha!l contain the job classification, titfe, rate of pay, department and a brief <br />job description. Any employee may apply for any such opening posted by filing a written application <br />on forms provided by the City, with the Service Direcfor on or before the last day of the posting <br />period. Any application not timely filed need not be giverr consideration. <br />Section 2. All timely applications will be reviewed by the City and the job shall be awarded within <br />five (5) working days to the most senior applicant in the next lower classification in the Family of <br />Jobs who has the experience, skill and ability to competently perf'orm the work in question.
