.lOB CLASSIFICATlON OPERATIONS LABORER <br />RESPONSiBLE T(? SUPERINTENDENT <br />W.W.T.P. <br />NATURE OF WORK: <br />This is manual labar in the performance of semi-skilfed and limited skiiled work of a <br />physical nature. The work invoives perfarming manual labor of a semi-skii}ed nature, <br />which requires limited special previous training or experience. Although the work is <br />usually performed under the immediate direction of an employee or a higher rank, <br />and instructions are received at the beginning of each new job, constant supervision <br />is not always avaifable for routine repetitive tasks which can be carried out without <br />difficufty once leamed. Upon receiving work instructions, the empioyee shall perform <br />the job task with very limited direction and supervision. <br />This is routine, skilled and semi-skilled work, assisting in shift operatians of the <br />Wastewater treatment plant, pumping equipment and facilities at the municipal <br />wastewater treatment plant and pumping stations. <br />Work involves responsibility for routine and emergency operation, servicing, and <br />efeaning buildings and grounds, as well as a variety or specialized equipment and <br />apparatus in a pumping station and wastewater treatment plant. Duties include the <br />operation of pumps, motors and the reading and recording of appropriate meters and <br />gauges at regular[y scheduled intervals, on and around pump stations and the <br />treatment plant. Incumbents are required to become thoroughly trained on assigned <br />equipment under normal and emergency situations. Work is performed under the <br />general supervision of the Assistant Superintendent - Plant Operations, and is <br />reviewed through inspection of plant records, equipment and facilities, and <br />observation and tests of plant efficiencies and effecfiveness. <br />Removes scum from primary tanks, draws sludge and pumps into sludge holding <br />tanks; wash down tanks; perForm laboratorytests as directed; maintains monitoring <br />watch over operation during shift and assists in the maintenance of shift operat+on <br />reports. <br />Assists other operators and maintenance personnel in switching pumps, transferring <br />sfudge; charging chemical hoppers and mixing chambers; cleaning and maintaining <br />plant equipment and facilities and other job duties as assigned. <br />This ciassification is subject to 24- hour call during emergency situat+ons. <br />_, -. <br />79 <br />•,? :
