? <br />.? <br /> <br />cannot be taken subsequent to the year.such vacation was earned <br />and are accumulated and taken in the next subsequent year, the <br />rate of vacation pay shall be at the rate of pay during the year <br />such vacation is taken, provided the same is approved by the <br />Department Head." <br />Section 4. Vacations must be scheduled with and authorized <br />by the Chief of Police or his designee. Schedules are to be <br />coordinated so as not to disrupt necessary City services or <br />functions of the department. <br />Section 5. If an employee is terminated (voluntarily or <br />involuntarily) prior to taking his vacation and has completed one <br />(1) year of employment with the city, he shall receive the <br />prorated portion of any accrued but unused vacation at the time <br />of separation. In case of death of an employee, the unused <br />vacation leave shall be paid to the estate. <br />Section 6. <br />(a) An employee may have the option of using a personal day <br />as a day of extended vacation, with prior approval of the Chief <br />of Police or his designee. <br />(b) An employee may have the option of usinq one week of <br />his vacation in increments of less than one week; for example, <br />one or two days at a time. An employee will give the supervisor <br />at least forty-eight (48) hours' advance notice in writinq. In <br />an emergency situation verbal communication with the supervisor <br />is appropriate and may justify waiving advance notification. <br />-15-
