14.5 The Fire Chief r,?ay require that the Employee furnish a <br />satisfactory affidavit explaining the use of Sick Leave. <br />ARTICLE XV <br />LEAVE OF ABSENCE <br />15.1 Einployees shall be entitled to take a personal leave of absence <br />with the approval of the Fire Chief. Any leave of absence for <br />personal reasons shall not exceed a ninety-day period. <br />15.2 An Employee who is on Sicic Leave, and has exhausted all <br />accumulated Sick Leave, shall be entitled to a sickness leave <br />of absence which shall not exceed ninety days from the date <br />accur,iulated Sick Leave was exhausted. <br />15.3 To nai.ntain any benefits normally paid by the Fmployer, the <br />Employee on leave as in Article 15.1 or 15.2 shall pay the cost of <br />such benefits to the Finance Director on the first day of the <br />month for which the benefit payment applies. <br />15.4 If an Employee does not report to the Fire Chief upon expiration <br />?- of the leave of absence, he sha.ll lose all rights of <br />employrient. <br />15.5 Probationary Fr.iployees shall not be eligible for a Leave of <br />Absence. <br />ARTICLE XVI <br />VALOR ON-DUTY INJURY <br />16.1 In the event that a full-time sworn Employee of the North 07msted <br />Fire Depa.rtment should be in jured while in the li.ne of duty due <br />to a sudden and accidental occurrence, or becomes ill due to <br />contact wi.th AIDS, Hepatitis, Tuberculosis or Nleningitis, and such <br />injury or illness has so incapacitated the Fmployee that he is <br />temporarily unable to work, the Fire Chief shall render a decision <br />whether the injury or illness is work related and of a temporary <br />nature. The Fire Chief r,iay then request the Safety Director <br />authorize full payment of the Employee's regul.ar salary for a <br />period of not more than ninety days. If after ninety days the <br />IInployee is still temporarily incapacitated, the Safety Director <br />shall recomnend to Council whether or not to continue salary. <br />Council shall forthwith review the matter and by a majority vote <br />determine whether the Employee shall continue to receive his full <br />salary during recuperation. <br />-16-
