<br /> <br />established by OSHA. <br />N. Permit-Required Confined Space - A confined space that has one or more of the <br />following characteristics: <br />1. Contains or has a potential to contain hazardous atmosphere; <br />2. Contains a material that has the potential for engulfmg an entrant; <br />3. Has an internal configuration such as that an entrant could be trapped or <br />asphyxiated by inwardly converging walls or by a floor which slopes <br />downward and tapers to a smaller cross-section; or <br />4. Contains any other recognized serious safety or health hazard. <br />Q. Purging - Method by which gases, vapors, or other airborne contaminants are <br />displaced from a confined space. <br />VI. PROCEDURE <br />A. The entry supervisor shall evaluate the workplace for "confined spaces". <br />1. All permit-required confined spaces (PRCSs) shall be identified. <br />2. All PRCSs shall be identified with a sign reading: DANGER--Permit- <br />Required Confined Space, Do Not Enter (Attachment B), or any other <br />method, such as training, or a site identification map. <br />B. If entry is required into a PRCS, the entry supervisor must insure that he <br />following requirements are met: <br />1. Written procedure for safe entry must be established. (Refer to <br />Attachment D"Sewer Entry" for typical entry at W.R.E.S.) <br />2. All equipment referenced in the appropriate written procedures must be <br />provided. <br />3. Perform the air testing & monitoring. <br />4. Provide at least one attendant (or as many as needed to adequately cover <br />multiple entry operations). <br />5. Designate in writinQ the names of the authorized entrants, attendants, and <br />entry supervisors. <br />4
