All interceptors sha12 be of a type and <br />capacity approved by the Servi.ce Director., and shall be located as to be readily and <br />easzlg accessible for cleaning and i.nspection. <br />Grease and oil interceptors shall be constructed of impervious materials cspable of <br />? withstarbding abrupt and extreme changes in temperature. They shall be of substantial <br />constractions watertight.. and equipped with easi7,y removabl.e covers which when bo2ted <br />in place shall be gas ti#ht andmter tight. <br />Where installed., al.l grease, fli.l and sand 3ntexceptors sha1Z be maintained by the owner, <br />at his expensey in continuously efficient vperation at all times. <br />Section 21: PRELLMSNARY TREAT*4ENT QF INDUSTRIA.L WASTES. The aclanission <br />into the nublic sewers of any waters or wastes having (a) a 5-day Bioehetaieal O-Vgen <br />Uemand grester than 300 pax'ts per mill.ion by weights or (b) containing more tnan 350 <br />parts per million by we3ght of suepended soli.ds, or (c) containing any quantity of <br />substances having the charactaristics described in Section 19, or (d) having an average <br />daily flow greater than 2% of the average dai],y sswage flow of the City., shall be sub- <br />ject to the review and approval af the Service Directar. Where necessary in the <br />opinion of the Servica Director, the owner sha11 provide at hi.s expense., such preliminary <br />treatment as nay be necessary to, (a) reduce the Biochemical Ox,ygen Aemand to 300 parts <br />per miZlion and the suspand,ed solids to 350 parts per mi.llion by waight, wr (b) redUCe <br />abjectionabls aharacteristies or constitubrttss to within the maximum 1im3.ts pravided for <br />in Section 19s or (c) control the quantities and rateg af discharge of such waters or <br />wastes. Plans, spec3.f'icati4ne., and any other pertinent information reIating to pro- <br />posed treatanent faei].ities s ha11 be subnLitted fbr/6he approval of the Service Director, <br />and no construction of such facilitie$ shal.l be corrmenced until said approval 3.s obtained <br />in writing. <br />Section 22: PRIVATE PRE TREATMENT FACILITIES; EXPENSE dF 4PFR.A'TIQN. Where <br />any private pre-treatment facilit3.es ars provided for any waters or wastess tYiey shall <br />be maintained conti.nnon.s3,y in satisfactory and effective operation., by the awner of auch <br />treatment facilities at his expense. <br />Section 23: INDUSTRIAL EASTES; MANHQLEESA The owner of any property° served <br />by a building sewer carrying industri al wastes sha1.1 install a suitable cGntrol msn- <br />hole in the building sewer to facilitate observations sampling and measurement of the <br />wastes. Such manhole, shall be accessibly and safely locatred and sha1.1 be constructed <br />in accordance w3.th plans approved by* the Service Director. The manhoZs shall be in- <br />stullsd by the ownsr at his expense., and shall be riaintained by him so as to be safe <br />and accessible at all times. <br />Section 24s INDUSTKIAL 14ASTES; <br />analyses of the characteristics of waters <br />Sections 19 and 21 sYiall be determined in <br />bcamination of Water and Sewages" upon the <br />marhole provided for in Section 23 or upo <br />? mar?hole. <br />TESTS, All maasuremants, tests, a nd <br />and wastes to which reference is made in <br />accordaace with '?Star?dard :'?teethods for the <br />waste discharging through the control <br />n suitable sanples taken at said control <br />
