341.07 TRAFFIC CODE 46 <br />(1) On the rear, one red tail light; two red reflectors, one at each aide; one red <br />or amber atop light if the semitrailer obscures the atop light on the towing. <br />vehicle . <br />(f) On every pole trailer there shall be at least the following lighting devices and <br />reflectors: <br />(1) On each side, on the rearmost support for the load, one combination marker <br />light showing amber to the front and red to the side and rear, mounted to <br />indicate maximum width of the pole trailer or load; one red reflector,. located <br />at or near the rear. <br />(2) On the rear, one red tail light, two red reflectors, one at each side, placed <br />to.indicate extreme width of the pole trailer or its load, whichever is wider. <br />(g) The color of lighting devices shall be as follows: <br />(1) The stop light or other warning devices on the rear of any motor vehicle may <br />be red or amber: <br />(2) Stop lights shall be actuated by application of the service (foot) brakes and <br />shall be capable of being seen and distinguished from a distance of one <br />hundred feet to the. rear of the motor vehicle in a normal daylight; but shall <br />not project a glaring or dazzling light. The stop light may be incorporated <br />with the tail light. <br />(3) No reflector required by this chapter shall be mounted upon the motor vehicle <br />at a height 'to exceed sixty inches, nor less than twenty-four inches above the <br />ground on which the motor vehicle stands. <br />(4) Every reflector shall be of such size and characteristic as to be readily <br />visible at night from all distances within 500 feet to fifty feet from the <br />motor vehicle when directly in front of a normal headlight beam. <br />(Ord. 892. Passed 5-15-51.) <br />341.07 BRAKES. <br />(a) Every truck and tractor shall be equipped with brakes adequate to control the <br />movement of, and to stop and to hold, such vehicle, fncluding two separate means of <br />applying the brakes. At least one such braking means shall be a mechanical hand <br />(parking) brake which shall employ a ratchet and pawl or other suitable locking and releas- <br />ing mechanism to insure the setting and holding of at least one set of brakes. If these <br />two separate means of applying the brakes are connected in any way, they shall be so <br />constructed that failure of any one part of the operating mechanf sm shall not leave the <br />vehicle without brakes adequate to stop and to hold such vehicle. <br />(b) Every truck or tractor shall be equipped with brakes on all wheels adequate <br />to stop and hold such vehicle, or combination of vehicles. Every full trailer, semi- <br />trailer or pole trailer shall be equipped with brakes on at least one set of wheels. <br />(c) Every full trailer, semitrailer or pole trailer, except those weighing 3, 000 <br />pounds gross or less, shall be equipped with brakes of such a character as to be auto- <br />matically applied upon breaking away from the towing vehicle, and means shall be pro- <br />vided to maintain application of the brakes in such case for at least fifteen minutes. <br />
