47 Motor and Common Carriers 341.10 <br />(d) All brakes with which motor vehicles are equipped shall be operative at all times. <br />Means may be used for reducing the braking effort on the front wheels of any truck or <br />tractor, provided that no such means shall be capable of making the front wheel brakes <br />entirely inoperative. <br />(e) All brake tubing and brake hose shall be adequate in material and construction to <br />insure proper continued functioning; sufficiently long and flexible to acoommodate without <br />damage all normal motions of the parts to which they are attached; and suitably secured <br />and protected against chafing or other mechanical injury: <br />(fj All connections for compressed air, vacuum or hydraulic braking systems shall <br />be adequate in material and construction to insure proper continued functioning; and shall <br />be so designed, constructed, and installed as to insure, when properly connected, an <br />attachment free of leaks, conatric•tiona, or other defects. Suitable provision shall be <br />made in every detachable connection to afford reasonable assurance against accidental <br />disconnection. (Ord. 892. Passed 5-15-51. ) <br />341.08 TRAILER COUPLING DEVICE. <br />Every trailer shall be equipped with a coupling device which shall be so designed and <br />constructed that the trailer will follow substantially in the path of the vehicle drawing it <br />without whipping or swerving from aide to side. In addition, every such full trailer shall <br />be coupled with stay chains or cables to the vehicle by which it is being drawn, which <br />'~` chains or cables shall be of sufficient size and strength to prevent parting from the drawing <br />~` vehicle should the regular coupling break or become otherwise disengaged. <br />(Ord. 892. Passed 5-15-51. ) <br />341.09 HOURS OF SERVICE. <br />No employee of a motor carrier, including owner-drivers, may drive or operate a <br />motor vehicle after being on duty fourteen consecutive hours until he shall have had eight <br />consecutive hours off duty, no part of which relief period shall be required to be spent in <br />or upon a motor vehicle. No such driver or helper who has been on duty for fourteen <br />hours in the aggregate in any twenty-four hour period, shall be required or knowingly <br />permitted in the State of Ohio to continue or again go on duty until he shall have had at <br />least eight consecutive hours off duty, no part of which relief period shall be required to <br />be spent in or upon a motor vehicle. (Ord. 892. Passed 5-15-51.) <br />341.10 DRIVER'S LOG. <br />Each motor carrier, its drivers and employees, including owner-drivers and drivers <br />who are the holders of a certificate or permit, who operates a motor vehicle engaged in <br />the transportation of property for hire over the highways of this State shall keep a driver's <br />log in duplicate. Entries in such driver's log shall be made by the driver and shall show <br />the place of origin and destination of the trip, the time of reporting for duty and the time <br />off duty. This rule shall not apply to drivers engaged in transportation of passengers. <br />(Ord. 892. Passed 5-15-51. ) <br />
