341.11 TRAFFIC CODE 48 <br />341.11 PARKING. ~„~~~~ <br />No motor vehicle shall be stopped, except for the purpose of picking up and discharg- <br />ing passengers, parked, or left standing, whether attended or unattended upon the main <br />traveled portion of any roadway outside of a business or residence district, when it is <br />practicable to stop, park or leave the motor vehicle off the traveled portion of such road- <br />way. When conditions may be impracticable to move the motor vehicle from the main <br />traveled portion of the roadway, every effort shall be made to leave all possible. width on <br />the roadway opposite such standing motor vehicle for the free passage of other vehicles. <br />(Ord. 892. Passed 5-15-51.) <br />341.12 WARNINGS WHEN STOPPED. <br />Whenever a motor vehicle or trailer is disabled or stopped for any purpose whatever <br />upon the traveled portion of the highway, .or the shoulder next thereto, except within a <br />business or residence district of the Ci"ty, the following requirements shall be complied <br />with during the period the vehicle is stopped. <br />During the time that lights are required by law, and during such time as vision is <br />insufficient because of weather conditions, fog, smoke, duet, etc. ,alighted fusee shall <br />be immediately placed on the roadway at the traffic side of the motor vehicle or trailer, <br />and as soon thereafter as possible, in any case within the burning period of the fusees, <br />three lighted flares (pot torches or red electric lanterns) shall be placed on the roadway <br />as follows: <br />(a) First, one in the center of the lane of traffic occupied by the disabled motor <br />vehicle or trailer and not leas than forty paces (approximately one hundred feet) <br />distant therefrom in the direction of traffic approaching in that lane. <br />(b) Second, one not less than forty paces (approximately one hundred feet) from such <br />vehicle in the opposite direction. <br />(c) Third, one at the traffic side of such vehicle approximately ten feet rearward or <br />forward thereof. <br />(d) Provided, however, that if the motor vehicle or trailer is disabled within 300 <br />feet of a curve, crest of a hill or other obstruction to view, the flare in that <br />direction shall be so placed as to afford ample warning to other users of the <br />highway, but in no case less than forty paces (approximately one hundred feet) <br />nor more than 120 paces (approximately 300 feet) from the disabled vehicle. <br />(e) Further, care shall be taken in the placing of any flare (liquid burning pot torch), <br />fusee, or any signal produced by a flame, to prevent igniting any gasoline or <br />other flammable liquid or gas. <br />(f) In the daytime, use flags instead of pot torches, except that no flag will be required <br />in the position required by subsection (c). <br />341.13 PRECAUTIONS FOR UNATTENDED VEHICLES. <br />No motor vehicle shall be left unattended until after the parking (hand) brake has <br />been securely set, the vehicle set in low or reverse gear, and all other reasonable <br />precautions have been taken to prevent its movement while unattended. <br />(Ord. 892.
