CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO, 64~_ <br />BY ~~, <br />A RESOL TION PROTESTING THE POLLUTION OF LAKE ERhE, <br />AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, Lake Erie is a valuable resource and a physical asset <br />of the Cleveland Metropolitan area and the City of North Olmsted, and <br />WHEREAS, sanitary and industrial pollution entering Lake Erie has <br />seriously and adversely despoiled the natural condtion of Lake Erie, has reduced <br />its life supporting qualtities, resulting in loss of fish, bird and animal <br />life, has reduced its value for commercial and industrial use, and has reduced <br />its aesthetic and recreational values, and <br />WHEREAS, if the present rate of pollution continues unabated, <br />Lake Erie will be permanently ruined and devoid of life supporting qualities and <br />the Cleveland Metropolitan are and the State of Ohio will have lost an irreplace- <br />able natural resource. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />of North Olmsted, State of Ohio, that <br />Sectionl: This Council hereby expresses its grave concern over <br />the damage and loss which has alreadYbeen suffered from the unabated pollution <br />and despoilation of Lake Erie. <br />Section 2. This Council pledges that on behalf of the people <br />it represents and for the benefit of the citizens of the Cleveland Metropolitan <br />area this City will take every feasible step to reduce, abate, prevent and enjoin <br />any industrial and sanitary pollution from this City into waters contributory <br />to Lake Erie . <br />Section 3: All other municipalities, responsible civil authorities, <br />public opinion media and civic organizations are hereby respectfully urged to <br />employ all feasible methods towards the end of abating and preventing the con- <br />tinued pollution of Lake Erie. <br />Section 4. The United States Secretary of Health and Welfare, <br />the Governor and Attorney General of the State of Ohio are hereby respectfully <br />urged, to immediately enforce the present laws for the prevention and; pmhfbition <br />of pollution into the waters of the State of Ohio. <br />Section 5: The Clerk of the Council is hereby directed to <br />forward certified copies of this resolution to the Secretary of Health and Welfare <br />,. of the United States, the Governor of the State of Ohio, the Attorney General of <br />the State of Ohio, the President of the Cuyahoga County Mayor's d City <br />Managers' Association and members of the General Assembly from Cu~rsh©ga <br />County. <br />:i ,py~~.. r.v._... ~'!R ~^......~..,~:.~_...... ,. .... -.,u.. r:?idMR+lY :~, ~. ~.a .-.-.:.~~+... -...fM.x ~..-~.~..r.. ~,.. _ ~ _ .::.... <br />
