CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED ORDINANCE NO. 64-_~,~ Page 4 <br />Section 373.12 Rentel Agencies <br />A rental agency operating within the city limits of North Olmsted <br />shall not rent or offer any bicycle for rent unless the bicycle <br />is licensed and a license plate is attached as provided herein <br />and such bicycle is equipped with the lamps and the other equip- <br />ment required by this ordinance, and is in safe operating condition. <br />Section 373.13 Traffic Code Application <br />Every person riding a bicycle upon a street shall be granted <br />all of the rights and shall be subject to all of the duties <br />applicable to the driver of a vehicle by the laws of this State, <br />or by the traffic ordinances of this City, applicable to the <br />driver of a vehicle, except as to special regulations in this <br />ordinances which by their nature can have no application. <br />Section 373.14 Obedience to Traffic Control Devices <br />(a) Any person operating a bicycle shall obey the instructions <br />of official traffic-control signals, signs and other control <br />devices applicable to vehicles , unless otherwise directed by <br />a police officer. <br />(b) Whenever authorized signs are erected that no right or left <br />or "U" turns are permitted, no person operating a bicycle shall <br />disobey the direction of any such sign, except where such person <br />dismounts from the bicycle to make any such turn, in which <br />event such person shall then obey the regulations applicable to <br />pedestrians. <br />Section 373.15 Riding on Streets, Bicycle Paths or Sidewalks <br />It shall be legal to ride a bicycle upon a sidewalk, street or <br />public way, or upon any path set aside for the exclusive use of <br />bicycles, subject to the following: <br />(a) Every person operating a bicycle upon a street shall ride <br />as near to the right side of the street as is practicable, exercising <br />due care when passing a standing vehicle or one proceeding in the <br />same direction. <br />(b) Persons riding bicycles upon a street shall ride in single <br />file only and not abreast except on paths or parts of streets <br />set aside for the exclusive use of bicycles. <br />(c) Wherever a designated path for bicycles has been provided <br />adjacent to a street, bicycle riders shall use such path and shall <br />not use the street. <br />(d) Any person operating a bicycle shall ride upon the sidewalk <br />rather than the roadway when sidewalks are available and not <br />congested with pedestrian traffic. ~ If the sidewalk is congested <br />with pedestrian traffic, the bicycle operator using the sidewalk <br />shall walk the bicycle. At no time shall a bicyclist under the <br />age of five operate a bicycle on a street. <br />-_ <br />
