CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED ORDINANCE NO. 64-~~ Page 5 <br />(e) No person shall ride a bicycle upon a sidewalk upon or <br />along which signs have been erected by authority of the Chief <br />of Police prohibiting such bicycle riding. <br />(~ Whenever a person is riding a bicycle upon a sidewalk or <br />street, such person shall yield the right of way to any pedestrian <br />and shall give an audible signal before attempting to overtake and <br />pass a pedestrian or another bicycle. 'T'his audible signal must <br />be given only by a bell or other warning device capable of giving <br />an audible signal but in no event shall a siren or whistle be used <br />for signaling purposes. Said signal shall be given at a distance <br />in such a manner as not to startle a person or persons lasing over- <br />taken and passed <br />(g) It shall be unlawful to ride a bicycle across or through an <br />intersection when crossing a through street. Such intersections <br />are to be crossed by walking the bicycle across or through the <br />intersection. <br />(h) Whenever a person is riding a bicycle upon a sidewalk, the <br />person before overtaking and passing a blind person carrying a <br />white cane shall dismount and overtake or pass on foot. <br />(i) When a bicycle is operated on the street, the operator shall <br />give :hand signals before turning, changing lanes, or stopping. <br />Such signals shall conform with the Motor Vehicle Laws of Ohio. <br />(j) Every rider of a bicycle shall exercise due care to avoid <br />colliding with any pedestrian or any vehicle upon any roadway, <br />sidewalk, or bicycle path, or endangering the life, limb or <br />property of any person while in the lawful use of the streets, <br />sidewalks, or any other private or public property. <br />Section 373.16 Riding on Bicycles <br />(a) A person operating a bicycle shall not ride other than <br />astride a permanent and regular seat attached thereto, nor carry <br />any other person upon such bicycle other than upon a firmly <br />attached and regular seat thereon, nor shall any person ride upon <br />a bicycle other than upon such a firmly attached and regular seat. <br />(b) No bicycle shall be used to carry more persons at one time <br />than the number for which it is designed and equipped. <br />(c) No person shall engage in trick riding or operate a <br />bicycle without both hands upon the handle grips except when <br />necessary to give the hand signals required herein, or while <br />carrying packages, bundles, or articles, at which time at least <br />one hand must be kept on the handle bars . <br />Section 373.17 Prudent Speed <br />No person shall operate a bicycle at a speed greater than is <br />reasonable and proper under the conditions then existing. <br /> <br />
