<br /> <br /> <br />BY_,~,. <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ORDINANCE NO.~ 65- / ~_ <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 337.18 OF THE <br />NORTH OLMSTED TRAFFIC CODE, EAiTITIvED, <br />" MOTOR VEHICLE, MOTORCYCLE AND BICYCLE <br />BRAKES, " AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY, <br />WHEREAS, Council has determined that it is to the best <br />interest of the City of North Olmsted that the Traffic Code be reviewed to <br />eliminate any conflicts with provisions of the State Uniform Traffic Act. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINS D by the Council of the <br />City of North Olmsted, State of Ohio: <br />Section 1: That Section 337, 18 of the North Olmsted Traffic <br />Code reading as follows; <br />"337.18 MOTOR VEHICLE, MOTORCYCLE AND BICYCLE BRAKES, <br />(a) The following requirements govern as to brake <br />equipment on vehicles: <br />(1) Every motor vehicle , other than a motorcycle , <br />when operated upon a street shall be equipped w. <br />brakes adequate to control the mov®ment of and <br />to stop and hold such motor vehicle, including <br />two separate means of applying the brakes, each <br />of which means shall be effective to apply the <br />brakes to at least two wheels. If these two <br />separate means of applying the brakes are connect <br />in any way, then on motor vehicles manufactured <br />or assembled after January 1, 1942, they shall <br />be so constructed that failure of any one part of the <br />operating mechanism shall not leave the motor <br />vehicle without brakes on at least two wheels . <br />(2) Every motorcycle, motor scooter, and bicycle <br />with motor attached, when operated upon a street, <br />shall be equipped with at least one adequate brake <br />which may be operated by hand or by foot . <br />(3) Every trailer or semitrailer, except a pole trailer, o <br />a gross weight of two thousand pounds or more, <br />manufactured or assembled on or after January 1, <br />1942 , when registered in this State and operated <br />upon the streets shall be equipped with brakes <br />adequate to control the movement of and to stop <br />and to hold such vehicle and so designed as to be <br />applied by the driver of the towing motor vehicle <br />from its cab, and such brakes shall be so designed <br />and connected that, in case of a breakaway of the <br />towed vehicle, the brakes shall be automatically <br />applied. <br />
