(d) Where the street layout actually on the <br />ground, or as recorded, differs from the street <br />layout as shown on the Zone Map, the Board shall <br />interpret the map in such a way as to carry out <br />the intent and purpose of this ordinance and the <br />map for the particular section or district in <br />question. <br />(e) Where by reason of topographical condi- <br />tions, District border line situations, immediately <br />adjoining existing developments or because of other <br />unusual circumstances, the strict application -of <br />any provision of this ordinance would result in <br />exceptional practical difficulty or undue hardship <br />upon the owner of any specific property, the Board <br />in passing upon appeals, shall have the power to <br />vary or modify such strict application or to inter- <br />pret the meaning of this ordinance so as to relieve <br />such difficulty or hardship; provided that such <br />variance, modification or interpretation shall re- <br />main in harmony with the general purpose and intent <br />of this ordinance, so that the health, safety and <br />general welfare of the community shall be.conserved <br />and substantial justice done. In the exercise of <br />this power the Board may, among other variances,. <br />modifications and interpretations, authorize a <br />permit to be issued; <br />1. For the use of land or the erection or <br />use of a building or structure such as a real estate <br />office or a contractor's stable or storage yard, <br />for commercial or industrial purposes in a <br />residence district, in cases where such use is <br />incidental and reasonably necessary to the develop- <br />ment of the district for residential purposes, <br />and where the proposed use is.clearly of a temporary <br />nature, to be abandoned as the adjacent areas become <br />occupied for residence purposes. Any permit so <br />authorized shall be only for such limited period <br />of time as the Board shall determine is reasonable <br />considering the character of the district in question, <br />and in no egse for a period of more than one (l) <br />year. <br />2 For a sand, gravel or clay pit, or a stone <br />quarry, together together with the necessary accessory <br />buildings or structures, in.a district restricted <br />against such use by this ordinance, for such period <br />and under such conditions as are reasonable, con-,,. <br />sidering the character of the district in question. <br />3. For a reasonable variation of the regula- <br />tions herein set forth as,the Board may deem <br />necessary to the appropriate development of a lot <br />adjacent to a lot, the,development of which at <br />the time of the passage of this ordinance does not <br />conform to the regulations of this ordinance. <br />4. For a reasonable enlargement of a structure <br />existing at the time of the passage of this <br />ordinance .and' used f,or trade, business or industry, <br />but located in a district restricted against such <br />use; or for reasonably necessary additional struc- <br />tures for any such use,`upon the same lot or plot <br />of ground as that upon which such existing structure <br />and use obtain. <br />
