Council Minutes of 12-17-2013 <br /> • Regarding James Connell vs. The City of North Olmsted, this is the case filed <br /> concerning class action flooding. The case will be a year old on January 20, <br /> **ay 2014. This case is now against Cuyahoga County, who was added as a defendant <br /> some time ago. For the past year, the city has been involved in the accumulation <br /> of records and cooperating and coordinating with counsel to exchange those <br /> documents. Paper discovery and depositions will continue throughout 2014. <br /> They are expecting a ruling on class action status/certification late in 2014. <br /> • The RFP process is proceeding this week for outside counsel for the Fox and <br /> Bielozer police matters. There are a number of firms that have inquired, and the <br /> deadline is this Friday. <br /> • The city was contacted about a real estate donation. They typically receive a <br /> request for people who have quit paying taxes on their remnant parcels years ago, <br /> and just want to get rid of them. The city chooses to decline that. Recently the <br /> city was contacted about a parcel that is adjacent to current city-owned property <br /> on Butternut Ridge Road. There is an estate that has one piece of real estate left <br /> that they would like to donate to the city. It's a remnant parcel from when I-480 <br /> was built. The city will do a survey and examine the title to make sure there are <br /> no liens on the parcel. <br /> • Regarding property maintenance, there are three cases with convictions that are <br /> pending sentencing. There are three open cases subject to conviction. Twelve <br /> complaints have been authorized and are awaiting filing. There are two <br /> complaints referred to law and are pending prosecution, and three complaints with <br /> unresolved issues in the Service Dept. due to the weather making it harder for <br /> people to comply. <br /> • He wished everyone a Merry Christmas. <br /> Director of Finance Copfer: <br /> • She has been asked to serve on the selection committee for the Master Plan <br /> consultant. There were ten or eleven proposals that were reviewed, and they <br /> interviewed four consultants today. They have been narrowed down to two <br /> consultants to choose from. <br /> • Council received the October month end detail and summary. She is currently <br /> reviewing November. Council should have this by the end of the week. <br /> • She has been working on the budget for 2014 and closing out 2013. <br /> • She wished everyone a Merry Christmas and looks forward to working with <br /> everyone next year. <br /> Council President Jones, Chairwoman of the Committee of the Whole: <br /> The Committee of the Whole met Tuesday December 10, 2013 at 7:33 p.m. Present were <br /> all members of Council, Councilwoman-elect Hemann, Mayor Kennedy, Law Director <br /> Gareau, Finance Director Copfer, Planning/Development Director Wenger and guests. <br /> Council heard from Greg Myers, Economic Development Consultant, who updated <br /> Council on economic development in the city highlighting the $19 million in private <br /> commercial construction projects that happened this year. He and the Planning Dept. <br /> continue to look for opportunities for redevelopment in the city. Sara Barnhart updated <br /> Nrr. Council on the Springvale Golf Course and Ballroom.
