MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />JUNE 17, 2014 <br />Present: Council President Jones, Council Members Barker, Brossard, Hemann, <br />Kearney, Limpert, Schumann and Williamson <br />Also Present: Mayor Kennedy, Director of Law Gareau, Clerk of Council Gallo, <br />Director of Safety /Service Glauner, Director of Planning /Development <br />Wenger and Director of Human Resources Farver. <br />Absent: Director of Finance Copfer <br />Council President Jones called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. in Council Chambers, <br />5200 Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Council in the recitation of the Pledge of <br />Allegiance. <br />The Council meeting minutes of May 20, 2014 were approved as written. <br />The following legislation will be considered for passage under suspension of the rules <br />this evening: Second Reading — Ordinance 2014 -43, Resolution 2014 -45 and Resolution <br />2014 -46; First Reading — Ordinance 2014 -48 and Resolution 2014 -49. <br />REPORTS <br />Mayor Kennedy: <br />• He swore in new North Olmsted police officer, Sean Ventrice. <br />• Downing Construction Company was awarded the contract for the Senior Center <br />Patio Project. Construction activity has started and should conclude during the <br />month of August. <br />• The North Olmsted Arts Commission will present Summer in the City Family <br />Concert Series in North Olmsted Park. Come out this Sunday June 22, 2014 from <br />4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. to hear the music of Johnny Aces and the Wingmen. <br />• The Civil Service Commission certified the entry level firefighters exam. There <br />were 53 applicants that took the test and all of the applicants passed. The <br />Commission will certify the top 7, and two vacancies will be filled this year. <br />Director of Law Gareau: <br />• A number of residents received a mass mailing from a law firm relative to a class <br />action law suit regarding the May storm event. This is the same law firm that is <br />currently involved in the matter of Connell vs. the City of North Olmsted. That <br />law suit was filed in January 2012 and seeks class action status for the storm <br />events of 2011. This is not a new filing. They are attempting to enlarge the <br />potential class of plaintiffs in the existing litigation from 2012 by including those <br />individuals from the 2014 rain event. The city's insurance defense counsel <br />continues to deny any liability in the matter. <br />
