MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />JUNE 3, 2014 <br />Present: Council President Jones, Council Members Barker, Brossard, Hemann, <br />Kearney, Limpert, Schumann and Williamson <br />Also Present: Mayor Kennedy, Director of Law Gareau, Director of Finance Copfer, <br />Clerk of Council Gallo, Director of Safety /Service Glauner, Director of <br />Planning /Development Wenger and Director of Human Resources Farver. <br />Council President Jones called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. in Council Chambers, <br />5200 Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Council in the recitation of the Pledge of <br />Allegiance. <br />The Council meeting minutes of May 7, 2014 were approved as written. <br />The following legislation will be considered for passage under suspension of the rules <br />this evening: Second Reading — Ordinance 2014 -37; First Reading — Resolution 2014 -44 <br />and Resolution 2014 -47. <br />REPORTS <br />Mayor Kennedy: <br />• He swore in Firefighter Carl Schanz as he was promoted to Lieutenant for the <br />North Olmsted Fire Department. Schanz thanked his wife, Sue, and members of <br />his family as well as members of the Fire Dept. Chief Schepp thanked Council <br />and the Administration for their support. He read the Department's Mission <br />Statement and commended the Fire Dept. on their current hard work and <br />expectations moving forward. <br />• Mayor Kennedy presented Mr. Scouting with his Proclamation, and Council <br />President Jones presented Mrs. Scouting with her Proclamation (attached). The <br />Honorary Officials for All Scouts Day 2014 were announced. <br />Director of Law Gareau: <br />• Regarding the matter of Brian Bielozer, et al vs. The City of North Olmsted, it was <br />filed in the Court of Common Pleas. There were a number of claims that were <br />asserted against the city and various employees by former Patrolman, Brian <br />Bielozer. The Reminger Law Firm has been retained as insurance defense <br />counsel and has entered an appearance on behalf of the City of North Olmsted and <br />the named defendants. They have filed a motion to remove the matter at Federal <br />Court. An answer will be filed before the end of the week. <br />• He reviewed Mayor's Court activity and cases that were prosecuted by Michael <br />Gordillo. Primary charges have been traffic control devices (red lights and stop <br />signs), using mobile communication devices while operating a motor vehicle, <br />driving under the influence charges, display of plates, display of license and <br />
