ARTICLE XV SICK LEAVE <br />15.1 Sick leave shall be earned in accordance with the Ohio State minimum requirements and <br />accumulation shall be unlimited. <br />15.2 Line Personnel shall have the option to receive twenty six (26) hours compensatory time <br />or twenty six (26) hours pay at the Basic Hourly Rate of Pay for Line Personnel plus Longevity <br />for each six (6) consecutive months of unused Sick Leave. Staff Personnel shall have the option <br />to receive twenty (20) hours compensatory time or twenty (20) hours pay at the Basic Hourlv <br />Rate of Pay for Staff Personnel plus Longevity for each six (6) consecutive months of unused <br />sick leave. Selection of such time off shall be subject to the approval of the Fire Chief or his <br />designee. <br />15.3 An employee or his estate shall be paid for unused, accumulated Sick Leave at the time <br />of retirement, disability retirement or death. Payment shall be based upon the Basic Hourly Rate <br />of Pay for his "work week" at the time of disability, retirement or death plus Longevity and the <br />amount shall be one -half (1/2) of the unused Sick Leave with a maximum payment of one <br />thousand (1,000) hours. <br />15.4 Any employee who transfers from one department within the City of North Olmsted to <br />another shall be credited with the unused balance of Sick Leave accumulated. <br />15.5 Sick Leave may be taken for any of the following reasons: <br />A. Illness or injury to the employee. <br />B. Illness or injury of a member of the employee's immediate family. <br />C. Medical, dental, or optical examination or treatment of the employee, where the <br />treatment may not be scheduled during non - working hours. <br />D. Exposure to contagious disease where quarantined by the Board of Health or <br />communicable to other employees. <br />E. Pregnancy of the employee where complications exist or childbirth by employee's <br />spouse. <br />15.6 The Employer shall require an employee to furnish a standard form identifying the reason <br />for the use of sick leave as per 15.5 and signed by the employee. <br />15.7 Before an absence may be charged against accumulated sick leave, the Employer may <br />require proof of illness, injury or death as may be satisfactory to the Employer, or may require <br />the employee to be examined by a physician designated by and paid for by the Employer. In any <br />event, an employee absent for three (3) consecutive work days must supply a physician's report <br />to be eligible for paid sick leave, unless waived by the Employer. This paragraph shall not be <br />applied in an arbitrary, capricious or unreasonable manner. <br />17 <br />
