Council Minutes of 04-05-2016
entrusted by our residents with money that represents a lifetime of their hard work.
Eighty one million dollars over 34 years —enormously huge! Don't waste it and I would
expect strong results from our investment. I would also like to state that I do not believe
we need all of the costly add-ons. Some schools excel in extra-curricular activities and
sports and don't even have a home stadium to call their own. They use other facilities.
We need to keep the primary focus on providing our children with the best and most solid
education for the security of their future and will hold you to that standard. Extras are
important and have their place but are not the nuts and bolts of success for our children. I
have heard from residents that you no longer keep sports memorabilia from the earliest
and some of the most notable of accolades in our trophy cases and on our premises.
Since you were presented with the funds for your new sports complex and performing
arts center, I would hope that you restore those items to their place of honor and instill in
our children the heritage and pride of the past that is what now has provided the
opportunities they have for their future. Respect for those residents is imperative and
expected. I think you can find room in the massive structures that are being built.
Finally, I would like to thank all of the residents for taking the time to speak with me and
for all of the politeness during those discussions. I truly do appreciate that. I continue to
be available for further discussion regarding my position and would like to pursue
discussions with some of the residents who expressed concern for their property values.
Thank you. CMS16-5267 is approved 4-3.
Councilman Schumann made a motion to approve a conditional use permit in conjunction
with CMS16-5267 for 26669 Butternut with the condition that the school's swale be
evaluated and necessary improvements be made as determined by the City Engineer. The
motion was seconded by Councilman Barker. Roll Call: Schumann, no; Barker, no;
Hemann, yes; Kearney, yes; Limpert, yes; Brossard, yes; Williamson, no. Conditional
use permit approved 4-3.
Councilwoman Hemann, Chairwoman of the Intra-Governmental Relations Committee:
The Intra-Governmental Committee met on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 6:30 p.m.
Present were committee members Hemann, Limpert and Kearney; Council members
Barker and Brossard; Mayor Kennedy, Planning & Development Director Wenger,
Safety & Service Director Glauner, City Engineer and guests.
• The committee met for the purpose of reviewing the Mayor's recommendation to
appoint Darrick T. Matthews to the Planning & Design Commission to fill a
vacancy and unexpired term from March 22, 2016 through December 31, 2017
due to a recent resignation. Councilwoman Hemann read the Memorandum
request of Mayor Kennedy regarding Mr. Matthews' appointment to the Planning
and Design Commission to fill the vacancy and unexpired term. Councilwoman
Hemann opened the meeting by thanking the applicant for coming and for his
willingness to volunteer. She next inquired about Mr. Matthews' background, in
particular, his zoning and land bank experience. Councilman Kearney inquired
regarding Mr. Matthews' availability and ability to commit to the meeting
schedule and the requirements of the Commission. Councilman Limpert asked
about the applicant's background and the composition from the previous
commission members' qualification to the current commission members'
qualifications. Planning Director Wenger assured the Committee that Mr.
7
