CCBH 2016 SEMI-ANNUAL REPORT City of North Olmsted Page 10 <br />SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL <br />Safe Routes to School programs are an opportunity to make walking and bicycling to <br />and from school safer and more accessible for children, including those with <br />disabilities, and to increase the number of children who choose to walk and bike. The <br />program can enhance children's health and well-being, ease traffic congestion near <br />the school, improve air quality, and improve community members' overall quality of <br />life. <br />Program.lnquiri,es.and Respo:nses.(in hours)*.......................4 <br />Schools <br />The CCBH contracts with public and private schools, providing comprehensive school <br />nurse services that are designed to meet the specific health needs of the school <br />community. These services include health screenings; communicable disease <br />investigation, management, and follow-up; health education offerings and training of <br />staff; maintenance of health records, including review of physicals and <br />immunizations; first aid and illness assessment; and case management of children <br />with special health care needs. Additionally, our Environmental public health staff <br />conducts comprehensive environmental health and safety inspections in over 300 <br />school facilities within our jurisdiction. These inspections are conducted on a semi- <br />annual basis and integrate traditional building and classroom sanitation and safety <br />inspections along with emerging issues of chemical laboratory safety, indoor air <br />quality, integrated pest management, playground safety, chemical storage, and <br />vocational safety. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH/SAFETY ASSESSMENTS <br />Inspections, Reinspections and .Complaints .......................10 <br />SCHOOL-BASED DENTAL SEALANT PROGRAM <br />This program provides quality dental sealants in a cost-effective manner to the <br />maximum number of Ohio's school children at high risk for dental caries by targeting <br />schools with high rates of eligibility for the Free and Reduced Price Meal Program <br />(FRPMP). <br />Program.lnquiri,es.and Respanses.(in hours)*.......................1 <br />E,d.u, c a t i o n ...................................................1 <br />
