Public Hearing of 8-8-2017
These changes will put standards on front yard open space and the construction of not
just driveways, but parking pads.
The City has somewhat increased the size of storage structures based on lot size. In the
past we used to get a lot of variances for increased space for storage. Another amendment
that should decrease variance requests is if you have a corner lot and you want a fence in
your yard currently your side fence must meet the front setback for adjacent property
which is 50 feet. So if you are on a corner lot, your fence must be setback 50 feet from
the side street, allowing people to only fence in a tiny portion. The standard was changed
from 50 feet to 20 feet, which allows the corner lot resident to use more of their backyard
without requesting a variance.
Dog houses are will now be distinguished from other animal shelters and there is now
flexibility for recreational vehicles to be parked on approved stable surfaces. Right now
our Code requires asphalt or concrete, this change will allow for pavers or other types of
stable services so someone would not need to pave an entire side yard to store a boat or
other recreational vehicle. This is more environmentally and stormwater friendly.
Finally, a list of prohibited accessory structures and uses. Mainly the types the portable
and temporary things like tents, huts and other things which are meant to be temporary,
but people were using as a permanent storage facility.
Accessory structures were the main focus of this update. Fences and sheds are the issues
we get most often and this will help residents in these areas.
AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION
No Comments.
Councilman Kearney made a motion to excuse the absence of Councilman Brossard. The
motion was seconded by Councilwoman Hemann and passed unanimously. Councilman
Brossard excused 6-0.
Councilman Limpert made a motion to excuse the absence of Council President Jones.
The motion was seconded by Councilwoman Hemann and passed unanimously. Council
President Jones excused 6-0.
With the agenda being completed and there being no further business to come before
Council, President Pro -Tem Schumann adjourned the Public Hearing at approximately
7:08 p.m.
d
Chuck Massarolo, Clerk of Council
Nicole Dailey Jones, e 'dent of Council
0
