(c) Medical, dental, or optical examination or treatment of the employee, where the <br />treatment cannot be scheduled during non -working hours. <br />(d) Exposure to contagious disease where quarantined by the Board of I Iealth or <br />communicable to other employees. <br />(e) Pregnancy of the employee, birth of a child, and placement of a child with the <br />employee for adoption or foster care. <br />15.02 A frill -time employee shall be granted sick leave for reasons outlined in Article 15.01 as <br />follows: <br />(a) Paid sick leave shall be earned and accumulated at the rate of four and six -tenths <br />(4.6) hours for every eighty (80) hours paid, excluding overtime; <br />(b) Pay for sick leave shall be at the employee's straight time hourly rate (or portion <br />thereof if absent for less than a full day); <br />(c) If an employee is absent on sick leave for more than three (3) consecutive work <br />clays, the Employer shall require the employee to present a physician's report <br />attesting of the employee's incapacity and that the employee was under the <br />doctor's care and is able to return to work. The Employer will review the <br />attendance records of employees periodically and at least once in each three (3) <br />month period. If the Employer believes that an employee is developing an <br />attendance problem, the Employer will notify the employee in writing that <br />medical evidence will be required for absences of three (3) days or less. When an <br />employee's record becomes satisfactory, the requirement for such medical <br />evidence for short term absences will be removed, and the employee will be <br />notified in writing. <br />(d) Employees may use up to fifteen (15) work days per year of earned and <br />accumulated sick leave if necessitated by illness in the employee's immediate <br />family. For purposes of this subsection, "immediate family" shall be interpreted to <br />be spouse, children, parents of the employee, regardless of the place of residence; <br />and other relatives living within the household of the employee. <br />(e) When an employee with five (5) or more years of service retires having received <br />P.E.R.S. pension, dies, or takes disability retirement and has accumulated sick <br />leave time, the retiring employee may convert one-half (1/2) of the accumulated <br />sick leave time (with the City of North Olmsted) to pay on the basis of his rate of <br />pay at the time of retirement but the maximum amount paid shall not exceed one <br />thousand (1,000) hours. <br />15.03 Consistent with the just cause standard in Article 30, the Employer may discipline or, if <br />appropriate, discharge an employee for abuse of sick leave or the patterned use of sick leave (Ex. <br />repeated Mondays, Fridays, or clays after payday). <br />
