MINUTES OF THE MI+'E-TING OF THE COUNCII. <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMS'1ED <br />FI;l31tUARY 19, 2019 <br />Present: Council President Jones, Council Members Brossard, Glassburn, IIemann, <br />Kearney, I,impert, Schumann & Williamson <br />Also Present: Mayor Kennedy, Director of l'inance Copfer, Director of IIuman <br />Resources Gallo, Director of Law Gareau, Director of Safety & Service <br />Glauner, Director of Planning & Development Lieber and Clerk of <br />Council Massarolo <br />Council President Jones called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. in Council Chambers, <br />5200 Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Council in the recitation of the Pledge of <br />Allegiance. <br />The Council meeting minutes of 1�'ebruary 5, 2019 were approved as written. <br />The following legislation will be considered for passage under suspension of the rules <br />this evening: Second Reading: Ordinance 2019-20, Resolution 2019-21 and Ordinance <br />2019-29. <br />REPORTS <br />Mayor Kennedy: <br />• l'ish Fry's at Springvale will begin on March 8 and go through April 12. The City <br />is working on solidifying the volunteer schedule. <br />• Council should have received an e-mail or two on the scholarship fund. "Those <br />names are due on March 1. If you have anyone you wish to nominate, please let <br />me know. They have to be a North Olmsted resident, but they do not need to <br />graduate from North Olmsted. <br />• The Princess Ball is Sunday, February 24. <br />• I will be participating in the Right to Read week at Saint Brendon's on February <br />26. <br />Director of Law Gareau: <br />• In the matter of State ex rel. James Connell et al. v. City of North Olmsted, this is <br />the class action flooding case. There has been a tentative settlement agreement <br />reached. "There is a preliminary approval hearing on March 1 at 10:00 a.m. It is a <br />pretty complex case and goes back to the three flood events that took place <br />February 28, 2011, July 19, 2011 and May 12, 2014. These cases have been <br />hanging around for almost eight years now. This is an insurance case and the <br />insurance company is handling it. The City continues to deny liability, the <br />insurance company will negotiate a settlement based upon their business interests. <br />It is not a small sum of money, it is 5710,000. The City has a deductible and <br />exhausted the deductible a long time ago. That is the settlement amount. "There is <br />
