ARTICLE XXIX CON I'INUING EDUCATION <br />29.1 The Employer shall provide continuing education fol- those employees who are required <br />to recertify in areas that require mandatory recertification tar the employee to maintain <br />employment. Costs for continuing education shat I be paid by the Employer and if said education <br />requires the employee to attend classes above and beyond his Normal Work Schedule_ he shall <br />be paid Overtime Pay. The education must be approved in advance by the Faire Chiet'or his <br />designee. <br />ARTRA-E.. XXX I U1P1NIENT AND GEAR <br />30.1 The Lmployer shall Furnish and maintain at no cost to the employee all gloves. helmets, <br />protective clothing and other protective equipment necessary to preserve and protect the sal'et\ <br />and health of the employee as determined by the lire Chief. <br />30.2 An Occupational Safety and I-fealth ("onlmittec shall he established and shall serve in an <br />advisory capacity to the Fire Chief. The committee shall include the designated Fire Department <br />safety officer, representatives of Fire Department inanagement, and three (3) members of the <br />North Olmsted Fire Department, chosen by the Association. who have attained the rank of First <br />Class or higher. The committee shall also be permitted to include other persons, to be appointed <br />by the Fire Chief. <br />30.3 The purpose of this committee shall he to conduct research, develop rccorruncndations.. <br />study, and review matters pertaining to occupational safety and health \-vithin the Fire <br />Department. <br />30.4 The committee shall hold regularly scheduled mectings and shall be permitted to hold <br />special meetings whenever ne.cessar}. Re._ular meetings shall be held at least once in every six <br />(6) months. Written minutes shall be retained and shall be made available to all employees. <br />30.5 The committee shall make recommendations to the Fire Chief on matters concerning the <br />safety and health of'department members. The Fire Chief shall respond within fourteen (14) days <br />or within a mutually agreed time frame. Sh('.)uld a dispute exist with respect to the decision of the <br />Fire Chief regarding corrective measures, the committee may submit those recommendations to <br />the Safety Director requesting relief from the Fire (_`hiet's decision. Upon receipt. the Safety <br />Director shall respond within ten (10) days. The decision ol'the Safety Director may be appealed <br />to the Mayor or his designee and his decision shall be final. <br />ARTICLE XXX1 COMPENSATORY TIME <br />31.1 Each employee shall have the right to convert overtime hours into corripensatory time <br />with the approval of the Fire C hie'f or his designee on a dollar -far -dollar basis. F;mployees shall <br />be paid for all compensatory time accumulated in excess of Your hundred eighty (4130) hours on <br />the next scheduled pay. <br />
