Due to the nature of some of the items, the IPI is not intended for use in assessing candidates
for jobs other than "public safety/law enforcement officer" (including but not limited to such
titles such as Deputy Sheriff, Corrections Officer, Police Officer, Transit Officer, Court Officer,
Security Officer, etc.). However, the IPI is also appropriate for other high-risk occupations
where job analyses and legal issues provide specific justification, such as Firefighters,
Dispatchers, Hostage Negotiators, and Nuclear Power Plant Operators. Given some items may
appear to aid in identifying symptoms of psychological disorders, the IPI is recommended only
for use in post -conditional offer selection (Institute for Personality and Ability Testing, 2006).
The IPI has a validity measure which evaluates the degree to which an individual minimizes
his/her shortcomings. It clearly identifies elevated scores in areas which may require further
exploration. The IPI measures sixteen scales (Substance Use, Rigidity, Passivity, Admitted Illegal
Behavior, Criminal Accusations, Social Difficulties, Volatility, Anxiety, Abnormal Thoughts,
Depressed Mood, Elevated Mood, Non -Conformity, Unreliability, Risk -Taking Tendencies,
Irritability, and Health Concerns) and provides a narrative interpretation of the
individual's score on each scale. Items on the IPI have been identified by subject -matter
experts as being of particular concern for individuals working in public safetyjobs. Admission
to a large number of these items is cause for concern that the candidate may have difficulty
performing.
The Assessment Interview will be conducted by a PRADCO professional trained in safety
force assessment either virtually or face-to-face. Each interviewer will have reviewed the
candidate's online assessment battery and will use the interview time to learn more about the
candidate's background as well as to clarify any information contained in the online
assessments. PRADCO will also evaluate firsthand the candidate's interpersonal skills and
versatility, propensity towards bias, strategic thinking and problem -solving skills, emotional
maturity, and ability to collaborate with a diverse cross-section of the community. The
interview has both structured and unstructured components and typically lasts 45-60 minutes.
There are both Police Officer and Firefighter specific structured interview questions.
PRADCO
;ht ,,,E Police and Fire Assessment & Consulting Proposal for City of North Olmsted 7
