Amy Allen
24898 Fawn Drive
Good evening, council members. My name is Amy Allen and my statement today is in reference to the
ordinance regarding housing restrictions for backyard chickens within city limits. I have been a proud
citizen of North Olmsted for 2 years and held a rewarding career as a veterinary technician for the past
21 years. Recently, I was excited to find out from a veterinary colleague and fellow resident of North
Olmsted that we were allowed to keep up to 10 hens on our property. What a rewarding way to explore
a more sustainable lifestyle and teach our kids some of the very basics our country is based on,
especially in these uncertain times. But then I was extremely frustrated and disappointed to read the
housing contradictions in another (hard to find) ordinance. I was made aware that recent steps have
been taken to eliminate these distance requirements which are virtually unattainable on most North
Olmsted lots. I would like to see the next steps taken by the council to rectify these inconsistencies as
soon as possible. With changes made, I would gladly welcome inspections or pay permit fees to be able
to legally keep chickens on my property and I'm sure most responsible pet owners would agree.
Obviously, the council recognized the importance of allowing backyard chickens by developing an
ordinance to do so in the first place. Let's make that dream a reality for more residents like me by
creating a sensible and feasible housing solution. Thank you for your time and stay safe.
