Special Council Minutes of 07-05-2022
Danielle Chaffin
Attorney Ohio Patrolmen's Benevolent Association
17892 Treasure Isle Circle
Strongsville, OH
Named each North Olmsted dispatcher and stated that the City promised them protection and
40 -hour wages. Also noted the dispatcherscommutes will be at least an hour, and that the
dispatchers will lose their seniority at CVD. Asked several questions on how the operations will
work at Chagrin Valley.
Paula Tighe
North Ridgeville. OH
Has been a dispatcher for 32 years at another facility, which went to a regionalized center and
then moved back within the city because of complaints at the regionalized center. Feels the
shortage of dispatchers is due to regionalization, noting a dispatcher's job is very stressful and
feels it's very important to have dispatchers familiar with the area and further feels the residents
will be unsafe.
Calvin Holliday
11' VP Western Cuyahoga FOP
Was a police officer of 39 years and stated regionalizing dispatch will impact the safety of law
enforcement and the citizens of the City. Stated these actions do not support law enforcement.
Alejandro Chock
24677 Randall Drive
Stated he thought it was unimaginable that Council and the Administration would have
dispatchers celebrating with their families on July 4t' and then force them to come in to defend
their jobs the next day. Discussed his thoughts on a quote from Chief Wagner stating that he
was not thrilled that the regionalized center is on the eastside. Noted that the Public Safety,
Health and Welfare Committee voted to not recommend the legislation. Mr. Chock noted that
North Olmsted is a city of developments, many of which only have one or two entryway and exit -
ways and having someone familiar with those areas is imperative.
Don Akey
32 Year resident of North Olmsted and a Union member and stands behind the dispatchers.
Feels North Olmsted has the best Police, Fire and dispatchers in the State of Ohio, and will
stand and fight for the dispatchers.
Bob Briesath
6023 Decker Road
Mr. Briesath gave his phone number out as he stated he has tried to contact Councilwoman
Gilchrist several times with no response. Asked how much money will be saved regionalizing
over to the Eastside; also asked how warrants will be issued. Does not want to see the
dispatchers leave. Asked who will be in the police station if someone comes in that needs help.
Ms. Gilchrist asked what number was being called, and it was determined that Mr. Briesath was
calling the wrong number.
