Special Council Minutes of 07-05-2022
Christine Strauss
Was a former North Olmsted Dispatcher and Chagrin Valley Dispatcher and feels that CVD is a
very stressful center, that does not care about their employees, or if the dispatchers know the
cities for which they dispatch. Feels North Olmsted will lose a lot of great people.
Tom Austin
Executive Director, OPBA
10147 Royalton Road
North Royalton, Ohio
Represents the dispatchers and is a 26 year police officer. Relayed a story of being involved in
a shooting incident and was so happy to have dispatchers that knew him during the incident.
Mr. Austin is also state-wide Union President and asked Council to think hard if these changes
need to be made now. Asked why the decision hasn't been given to the residents to vote on
this issue.. and asked for transparency.
Beth Vance
4561 Broadale
Cleveland, OH
Wanted to again urge Council to keep the dispatchers in North Olmsted. She said that the fact
that the police know their voices is so important. Noted that they are essential workers and
work 365 days a year. Ms. Vance feels money should be re -invested in North Olmsted to keep
dispatch here as it is an investment in the City, noting that seconds and minutes save lives.
Kendra Adams
Part -Time Dispatcher North Olmsted
Feels that while the County is encouraging consolidation, they will not enforce it. She said the
regionalization only refers to wireless PSAPS. i.e.. CECOMS. Feels Council and the
Administration should wait before making a decision.
Chris Kelly
Law Enforcement
Was involved in the Starbucks shooting and having Mark Madden's voice on the other line
helped calm him down.
Bonnie Schmitz
5414 Decker Road
Ms. Schmitz had an emergency experience wherein her neighbor was being attacked by a
rapist. She noted she was too disoriented to tell dispatch exactly where she was, and where the
rapist was, as people were chasing him. Ms. Schmitz said because the dispatchers were
familiar with the area. they knew right where he was.
Chrissy Johnson
North Olmsted Dispatcher
Lorain, OF
Asked Council not to pass the legislation and asked if they had done their due diligence. and if
they had thought about the residents, or their own families if the legislation passes. Discussed
her findings on ISO scores. Has had contact with the State Director and the County stating
once again, that there is no rush on this decision.
