City of Broadview Heights Samuel J. Alai, Mayor POLICE DEPARTMENT STEVEN G.RAIFF Chief June 21, 2022 To whom it may concern, Several years ago, the Broadview Heights Police Department transferred dispatch services to Chagrin Valley Dispatch, after having our own stand-alone dispatch center for nearly 40 years. There was some fear and hesitation about losing the "personalized" service that come with having your own dispatch center. However, I can confirm the switch over was fairly easy and things have been running well ever since. I believe the greatest benefit has been having multiple agencies on the same radio band. Occasionally, without question, the radio traffic can be heavy. However, on multiple occasions neighboring jurisdictions have gotten to calls for service before my officers or provide back-up when my units aren't available. Two years ago, we were involved in an officer involved shooting. My officer had been stabbed multiple times. The back-up officers were from a neighboring jurisdiction, one of which was involved in the shooting. I believe that officer was there as quickly as possible because of the shared radio band. Furthermore, I believe that officer saved my officers life because of the quick response. On the administrative side of things, any issues with a call for service, policy and procedure, a need for radio recordings or 9-1-1 calls, the CVD administration addresses them immediately. On more than one occasion I have contacted Nick DiCicco on his personal cell phone, after business hours, and receive a quick response. I give a favorable recommendation of the Chagrin Valley Dispatch Center. I believe it can be an asset to your agency and your community.
