MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />MARCH 29, 2022 <br />Present: Council President Brossard. Council Members Gilchrist, Glassburn, Hemann, <br />Kelly, Limpert and Williamson. <br />Also Present: Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones and Director of Law Gareau and Director of Finance <br />Cool H. R. Director. Economic Director, Safety Director, Service Director, <br />Recreation Director, Special Assistant to the Mayor, Clerk of Council and guests. <br />Absent: Council Member Scarl <br />Council President Brossard called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, 5200 <br />Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Council in the recitation of the Pledge of <br />Allegiance. <br />The following legislation was considered for suspension of the rules. On second reading <br />Ordinance 2022-17 and Resolution 2022-24. <br />REPORTS <br />Mayor Jones: <br />• Thanked the Police Department for the quick response and handling of two separate <br />incidents on Monday, March 21. 2022involving the robberies of a local store and bank. <br />Stating our Police Department did an outstanding job handling both matters in a <br />professional manner, and also recognized the Fire Department in their response to the <br />first incident, in providing care and treatment to the suspect and to our own officers. <br />Also thanked the police departments in Westlake, Fairview Park, Bay Village, Rocky <br />River and Lakewood for providing assistance. <br />• Mayor Jones also added that during a meeting on the City's budget on Tuesday, March <br />22n' Council proposed a temporary program to add two additional officers bringing the <br />total up from 48 to 50. The purpose of the program is to help get enough officers online <br />and trained. as there are a significant number of police officers currently eligible for <br />retirement. Council noted this would be a temporary program and that the City's ARPA <br />money would be a good and appropriate way to fund this initiative. The Administration <br />committed to Council to fund this program with ARPA funds through 2024. <br />• Mayor noted she would like to revive the tradition of swearing in new Police Officers and <br />Fireman during Council Meetings. <br />• A Shred -It Day was scheduled on April 2, 2022, from 9'.00 a . — noon at the Recreation <br />Center, and the North Olmsted Recreation Center will be hosting the Annual Egg- <br />stravaganza on April 9. 2022, from 10.00 a.m. — noon at North Olmsted Park. <br />Director of Law Gareau <br />• No Report <br />
