MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />APRIL 2, 2024 <br />Present: Council President Brossard, Council Members Glassburn, Hemann, Madden and <br />Shymske. <br />Also Present: Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones, Director of Finance Copfer, H. R. Director, Economic Director, <br />Safety Director, Service Director and Recreation Director. <br />Absent: Council Members Gilchrist, Limpert and Scarl <br />Council President Brossard called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. in Council Chambers, 5200 Dover <br />Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Council in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. <br />The Council Meeting Minutes of March 5, 2024 and March 20, 2024 were approved as written. <br />REPORTS <br />Mayor Jones: <br />• Mayor Jones announced April is "Distracted Driving Awareness Month", and noted that this <br />week is also "Distracted Driving Enforcement Week" in the United States. She added that <br />distracted driving has become a deadly epidemic and offered tips from the National Highway <br />Transportation Safety Administration to avoid driving while distracted: <br />o Pull over and park your car in a safe location before texting. <br />o Designate a "designated texter" to respond to calls or messages. <br />o Do not scroll through apps while driving. Put the cell phone in the trunk, glove box or <br />back seat of the vehicle. <br />• April 41" - 8th, residents will see increased law enforcement on the roadways as part of the <br />national paid media campaign entitled, "Put the Phone Away or Pay." This campaign reminds <br />drivers of the deadly dangers and the legal consequences — including fines — of texting behind <br />the wheel. Drivers will be pulled over if texting while driving in North Olmsted. <br />• Mayor Jones advised that City Hall will be open during regular business hours on April 8, 2024, <br />during the total solar eclipse. Parking is not available at the City Hall complex for the purposes of <br />watching the eclipse. Mayor Jones added the following as information: <br />0 911 is for emergency calls only, not for information purposes. All other questions should <br />be directed to the non -emergency number at 440-777-3535. Do not use 911 to report <br />traffic jams unless there is a life/safety emergency. <br />o The North Olmsted Police Department will have extra officers, including bike patrol, <br />available during the eclipse timeframe to help direct traffic and enforce traffic safety. <br />o North Olmsted Police will not enforce the overnight parking ban on City streets on <br />Sunday, April 7th, but will enforce the no parking on the fire hydrant side of the street. <br />
