ARTICLE YJV 16 <br />SICK LEAVE <br />14.91. 16.01. Accumulation. Sick leave shall be accumulated at the rate of four and six -tenths <br />(4.6) hours for every eighty (80) hours paid, excluding overtime and may accumulate such sick <br />leave to an unlimited amount. <br />16.02. Uses of Sick Leave. <br />A. Sick leave shall be granted to an employee for the following reasons: <br />1. Illness or injury of the employee or a member of his immediate family. <br />2. Medical, dental, or optical examinations or treatment of an employee or a <br />member of his immediatefamily, which requires the employee, and which <br />cannot be scheduled during non -working hours. <br />3. If a member of the immediatefamily is afflicted with a contagious disease <br />or requires the care and attendance of the employee, or when through <br />exposure to a contagious disease the presence of the employee at his job <br />would jeopardize the health of others. <br />4. Pregnancy and/or childbirth and other conditions related thereto inclusive <br />ofleavefor male employees for the care of the employee's wife andfamily <br />during the postnatal period <br />An employee reporting off sick for the above reasons will be considered approved <br />provisionally subject to final review and approval by the Employer. <br />14,95 16.03. Documentation/Evidence Required for Sick Leave Use. If anemployee is <br />absent on sick leave for more than three (3) consecutive work days, the Employer shall require the <br />employee to present a physician's report attesting to the employee's incapacity and that the <br />employee was under the doctor's care and is able to return to work. The Employer will review the <br />attendance records of employees periodically and at least once in each three (3) month period. If <br />it believes that an employee is developing an attendance problem, it will notify the employee in <br />writing that a physician's report attesting to the employee's incapacity will be required for <br />absences of three (3) days or less. When an employee's record becomes satisfactory, the <br />requirement for such medical evidence for short term absences will be removed, and the employee <br />will be notified in writing. <br />#8616.04. Abuse of Sick Leavelfatterned Absence. Any abuse of sick leave or the unjustified <br />pattemed use of sick leave shall be just and sufficient cause for discipline, including discharge, as <br />may be determined by the Employer, subject to the grievance and arbitration procedure. <br />16 <br />48841592-515],, 3 <br />
