• I was honored to help out last week for some time with Georgia, to help fill those
backpacks at the food pantry, and I'm just really excited that we are able to provide
for students in need right here in North Olmsted, with the generosity of our
residents.
• I had the privilege also of swearing in our city's newest police officers, Daniel Ortiz on
Wednesday, July 24th, and Adam Morris on July 9th. The two of them will bring a
fresh perspective, I think, to our police force, and we were excited to welcome them.
Speaking of our city alert system, we went live a few weeks ago. We've been very
happy with the response. Our old system built up approximately 4,200 users over
the time it was active. As of this morning, we have 1,290 users registered. So for just
being live for a little over two weeks, we are very happy with this rate.
• With the new system, it's important to remember that the city now owns the data,
so our residents' information will remain with the city, not with an outside vendor.
As a friendly reminder, residents can choose which topics they would like to receive
alerts about, and if they would like to receive the messages either or via text, phone,
or email, or some combination of those three, based on the information they
provide. Residents do not need to provide all of the information requested. They
should only provide the information on how they would like to be contacted. So for
example, if a resident does not want email alerts, they should not provide their email
address. All information they provide is optional, and again, the city now owns the
data of this information, so it will not be used for anything other than providing
alerts.
• The city will continue to promote the system in various ways to our residents and
work with residents who have issues signing up. So if someone does contact you
saying that they're having trouble signing up, please direct them to Mr. Massarolo,
and he will walk them through the process. I also want to thank our service
department, not only for their hard work this evening, but throughout the summer.
Our summer workers through our service department, had been hard at work
flushing hydrants and repainting the hydrants throughout the city, and just generally
pitching in and helping where needed. Most of those workers will be headed back to
college or wherever their next endeavor takes them, but it sure was great to have
them here on campus and helping with all the needs that come up in a city during
the summer.
• Finally, our North Olmsted Senior Center is going to be celebrating the 55th
Anniversary of Woodstock on August 15th, with a special musical tribute followed by
lunch, and then on August 22nd, they will have their Hawaiian luau. So if any of you
could stop by during either of those events, you'd be more than welcome. Mr.
President, that concludes my report.
Council President Brossard:
Thank you, Mayor. Director of Law Gareau, do you have a report this evening?
Law Director Gareau:
Thank you, Mr. President. I do have a brief report.
08-06-24 Council Meeting Minutes - Page 3
