that probably will remain that way for quite some time this evening as they work towards restoring that. Our safety forces are out in full force as well. As many of you know, they were helping direct traffic during rush hour through some of our major intersections. A lot of our intersections have working lights now, but some of them do not still. So, we would just continue to encourage residents to proceed with caution, treat it as a four-way stop. If you could also, any residents that contact you, if there are trees that are down in their yard, they can move those branches, try to make them about six feet as best they can, put them to the tree lawn. Our service department will now be diverted over the next few days and will help residents clear up after this terrible storm. We did utilize our new text messaging system, so if you signed up for that, you had been getting some of those alerts today, but I just wanted to give Council that quick update on that event that has happened today. • It has been a busy July. One day that it did not rain on, was July 20th, where we were able to have our fireworks show and summer concert series. So, that event brought out several thousand people, and the band Jam Machine did a great job entertaining and engaging the crowd, because unfortunately the band that we had originally scheduled unfortunately had to cancel at the last minute. So, everything worked out, and it was a wonderful night had by all. • We do have one more summer concert series concert actually coming up this Saturday at the North Olmsted Park from 6 until 9 p.m. The band Ace Molar, featuring Todd Meany of Fox 8 News in the Morning, will headline that concert. So, I hope if you are able to join us at the Community Park, you will be able to do that this Saturday. • The North Olmsted Arts Commission is introducing their first community art project, and residents are encouraged to participate in this creative collaboration. The Arts Commission will distribute wooden tiles that will be turned into pieces of art, returned and attached together to create a blanket of tiles, showing one cohesive piece of community art. Tiles will be available for pickup this Saturday at the summer concert series, and will also be available for pickup on the Friday evening at the North Olmsted Homecoming. If you are creating a tile, once it is completed, it can be dropped off at the North Olmsted Rec Center for the Arts Commission to pick up. We are looking forward to, when the quilt is finished, it will be displayed at various city locations beginning in January of 2025. • As mentioned, Homecoming is right around the corner and will take place Thursday, I'm sorry, August 22nd through Sunday, August 25th, also at the North Olmsted Park, sponsored by the North Olmsted Community Council. We're looking forward to all of those events. • Immediately following the parade on Sunday, in their tent, the North Olmsted VFW Post will be handing out free school supply bags for students in grades K through 6th, and speaking of school supplies, this Thursday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. our Oxcart Food Pantry will distribute over 100 brand new backpacks filled with school supplies to North Olmsted students in need. 08-06-24 Council Meeting Minutes - Page 2
