• Advance tickets are now on sale, $10 each, for the 2024 Oktoberfest Senior Prom to be <br />held from four until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9th at Springvale Ballroom. Last <br />year, it was very fun. I would hope that Council members, if your schedule allows, could <br />stop by. They do crown a king and queen of the prom. <br />• The North Olmsted Junior Women's Club will host an Open House Membership drive at <br />6.30 p.m. this Thursday, October 3rd, at the North Olmsted Community Cabin. <br />• Also at the Community Cabin on Saturday, October 26th, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., <br />there will be a free Craft Show, there's no cost for admission to that event. <br />• I hope everyone welcomed October 1st with something pumpkin to eat or drink today, <br />with October brings Halloween. As usual, the City will have trick -or -treating from 6:00 <br />p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 31st, and participating residents are asked to <br />turn on their front porch lights during the designated hours. <br />• In addition to celebrating Halloween on the 31st, everyone is welcome to join the <br />members of our Police Department and the Department of Recreation and Public <br />Engagement for the annual Trunk -or -Treat and Boo -Bash event taking place from noon <br />until 3:00 p.m. this Saturday, October 5th, at our Community Park. Families with <br />children are welcome; candy will be passed out. Council Members may also bring a bag <br />to collect candy as well. <br />• The North Olmsted Arts Commission will once again sponsor its extremely popular <br />Halloween Home Decorating Contest this month. The deadline to register is Tuesday, <br />October 22nd; judging by Commission Members, will take place from October 24th <br />through the 28th, and the judging criteria include creativity, use of theme, placement of <br />decorations, and overall experience. This contest is open to residents of North Olmsted, <br />and residents may only win once every two years. <br />• Finally, the City will host Halloween trick -or -treating at North Olmsted City Hall from <br />11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Friday, October 25th. This is a free event for children and <br />their parents up to age five. Please bring your own Halloween bag to carry home your <br />treats, and Mr. President, that concludes my report. <br />Council President Brossard: <br />Thank you, Mayor. Director of Law Gareau, you have a report this evening? <br />Law Director Gareau: <br />Thank you, Mr. President. I do have a brief report. <br />• Last Friday, the 27th, there was a meeting held at Rocky River Municipal Court; <br />convened by Judges Burke and Hagan, with the topic being the homeless population in <br />the West Shore area. There is a small, but frequently, very visible, population of <br />individuals that have quite a bit of interaction with safety forces in all of the <br />communities that surround us, North Olmsted more than others, as was acknowledged <br />by Judge Hagan. The point of the meeting was to start a dialogue between the <br />communities and to reach out to third -party providers to see what type of assistance we <br />could receive from them by way of treatment. Many of these individuals are, it's a <br />mental health issue, not as much necessarily a substance abuse issue, but more of a <br />mental health issue. <br />10-01-24 Council Meeting Minutes - Page 2 <br />
